Sludge/Doom Effects

Hi, i have a bass head GK 1001 RBII and ABM115+ABM210.
I play drone/sludge/doom with my band.


what pedals I could buy a little to improve the sound?

I had thought to EBS Multicomp, Sansamp BDDI, Colorsound Bass Fuzz.

I would take the first sansamp to make the sound more broadly or deep. then take a fuzz.
I fear that by using only the fuzz bass becomes similar to a guitar.

do you think is useful a compressor in sludge/doom?

If you get the right kind of fuzz that holds bass, it won't sound like a guitar.

I personally wouldn't use compression for stoner/doom, but if you like it for your sound, then go for it. It's all about your taste!

I agree about not necessarily using a compressor, especially if you plan on using the fuzz a lot. Both a fuzz and a SansAmp will compress your sound significantly themselves. I'd also try running the fuzz INTO the SansAmp.

Phaser or flanger for stoner doom is always good.

This isn't really my wheelhouse so someone else can correct or expand on this but I think of sludge/stoner/doom as evolving from Black Sabbath style rock, very heavy, slow and ominous riffing. The Melvins are a big touchstone.

I like Electric Wizard and Sleep, but you'll probably get a lot more recommendations from people that are deeper into the genre(s).

Okay... So lotsa distortion.. .LOTSA distortion... Slower temps, minor keys and *long* songs... Rather like old Sabbath.

I think I have a handle on it. Not my cup-o-tea, but thanks for the info (I'm always trying to keep up on what you kids are into - you never know what a gig will call for!)

Yup, basically.
Good to see that people are keeping an open mind; you don't have to like something but I'm glad it's not just a "I don't think this, so it is terrible" kind of attitude :D

One thing I have a handle on is:
A) liking music other folks don't
B) playing music I don't like for a buck. I even have the high boots and cowboy hat to prove it!

Gotta keep an open mind or you'll never get a gig. I wish someone had told me that when I started playing (in 1976!). Back then, if it wasn't *Rock and Roll!!!* I woudn't play it. Silly, silly, silly.

Just MHO here, but when I want to play doom, I get together a fuzz, Devi Ever Dark Boost, Tremolo and Delay. That's it.
