another flave for the palate

Well it is getting added to lots of stuff as you know, so you will run into it and you'll find out what you find out - but I reckon you won't get a new flave, just another path to a Buddha you are already well acquainted with. But I could be wrong, and I will be curious to hear how it pans out regardless.
 
I'm not buying that 'individual note' stuff. It's marketed as a mastering tool , not as a bass guitar device. The notion of individual notes in recorded music is beyond unrealistic.

The spectral analysis accompanying the un-processed electric bass contained no harmonics. It's not an analysis of the actual signal.

Real musical signals, e.g., from an electric bass, already contain plenty of harmonic content that could be boosted without the need for a special algorithm, just by turning up the mids, or playing through speakers that have limited bass response, such as typical electric bass speakers.

I'll check out that vid when I've got something better than my iPhone speakers to use.

For the record I'm not doing any 'talking' of any kind. I asked a question, that's all. The blurb says "MaxxBass transforms low tone energy into higher frequency harmonics that the speakers can handle. The result is a richer, deeper bass sound, without excessive power consumption".

Can't the same result be achieved by, for example, cutting 30-50Hz and adding 80-130Hz with EQ?
 
I put a PDF in post #27 that includes a block diagram of the chip version which shows the internal signal flow. And talks about some of the magic, like the compression and gates used.

You can pick up the plugin and try it, and graph it on your own recorded tracks or known reference sample lib, or your own playing.

If you know of a recorded standard sample lib, I could run it through the plugin, a modeled bass amp, cabinet, and mic, but personal taste vary. Cut off frequencies vary. There's a lot of variables and the reason why you should try it yourself with your own preferences.

I've seen a lot of people ask this on other forums.

Try the plugin - it works the same as the hardware. Then try EQ and see if you can get the same results.

Maybe you've just saved everyone $150, but nobody on the other forums have found an alternative for what it does.
 
Lots of logical fallacies and craptastic nonsense in that vid. Junk science and false trails. The RGB thing is a hoot. Playing a bass's low E at 41.2 Hz and simultaneously talking about its fundamental at 82 or whatever? It's almost as if a more advanced version of the guy from tech21 picked up a few more catchphrases.

Great smoke screen for what they must really be doing. Any real WHITE PAPERS around?
