The Jetta TDI comes in a station wagon but it might be over your budget unless you find a used one. The Honda Element is cool but they don't make them anymore. Everyone I know who has one loves it and wants to keep it forever as they can't replace them with a new one now.

the guy I know hauled a motorcycle in the back of his. amazingly well thought out design, shame they didn't take off. god awful ugly tho.

whats the best bang for your buck high fuel economy car?
my price range is ~$18000 so 2012-13 model year is fine. just looking for some info. needs to fit that 4x10 i've been gassing for. and possibly a keyboard and some random brass instruments. i don't ever play them all at the same gig but it would be nice to have the space for it all with the back seat folded down.

Ive got a 2011 Chevy HHR ($15,000) and I could probably fit all of our bands equipment in that thing with the backseats folded down.

My 2009 Hyundai Sonata (4-door sedan) can fit 2 Ampeg 115 cabs in the back seat, 1 wedge monitor front passenger seat. In the trunk...1 wedge monitor, 2 Mackie SR450's PA speakers, 2 basses, gig bag, 2 space rack, amp, and an SKB iSeries case. And I still have some room on the front passenger and rear floors. I previously carried a Berg NV610 in the back seat with room to spare.

I've also heard the Mazda 3 Series get some love here for capacity.

Fuel Economy and budget reasons my price range kinda limits me. I'm also shooting for new since I have to make payments.

If you can find one used with decent mileage, a 2002-2006 Toyota Matrix / Pontiac Vibe. TONS of space with the seats folded down.

My Scion xA was under $15k when new, and hauls my upright plus amp. With a passenger, it's cozy but do-able. It gets 30 mpg in the city. I think it works out financially to downsize your gear rather than pouring gas into a bigger car.

I'd be looking at the VW GTI series. Hatchbacks rule, and the VWs will still scoot. Low powered cars aren't worth owning.

I drive a honda element and it's an absolutely incredible machine. Fits TONS of gear. Back seats can either fold up to the side or be removed. Not a "large" vehicle to drive.

If you're lookin for economy though i'll second the Honda Fit. Go check them out and take a tape measure.
