Ampeg 210AV is rated at 200 watts at 8 ohms, and I don't want to risk frying it with the 375 watts my amp pumps out (but the size is attractive)...

I wouldn't recommend only one 210AV under almost any circustances ... even when one would work, I usually always just use the two (other than rehearsal and coffee house type deal) ... the difference between one and 2 is substantial, and at 26 lbs each and a one sq foot box to carry (with handle on top) is more than attractive for weight and stage space ... I use a pair with 500 watt head and have no worries ... and at $200 each shipped used, and $250 new (with 15% off) you are in your price range, and both other criteria bolded ... should they not be your cup of tea, they will sell fast on the used market

I gig all the time with my SWR 210 Go Light cabinet (thing weighs like 32 pounds) Usually I have some PA but have even done it with no bass in the PA> Sometimes I add my Markbass NY12 on top of it for a bit extra (that thing is real light as well)

I use a vertical stack of two GK Neo 112's all the time. Great rig. They weigh 29lbs each.

I second this idea. I don't know what they cost new, but I just picked up a used RevSound 2x10 (4 ohms) for $300. 400 watt handling, and it's a beast with my Carvin BX500 (which will go down to 2Ohm). Dave is also super friendly - he saw (on here) that I picked up one of his cabs used, and approached me offering any assistance I may ever need with it. Good stuff.

At your suggestions I purchased a RevSound RS210. I almost got the RS48. The RS210 is 30 pounds and the RS48 is almost 50 pounds. 50 pounds is what I was expecting to carry, and the allure for 4x8s was very tempting. A single 2x10 at 4 ohms to handle all 600 watts of my Streamliner 600 really was not what I was going for; a pair of 2x10s or a 4x8 was what I was thinking. But with a single RS210 at 30 pounds, my frail body will thank me.

Dave Luke at RevSound was cool to talk to. There's something very nice about doing business with humans; especially when their strongest sales pitch is their product. As soon as as I have this cab in my sights, I'll test it for both apartment bedroom levels and rehearsal room levels, and since I have a string of shows lined up, I can test it at venue levels too.

Here it is: my new RevSound RS210 with the GB Streamliner 600.

I've only played it at bedroom (apartment) levels so far. It's VERY light. I can't wait to really test it.

Forget cheap. Get the best small light efficient speakers available
I would recommend investigating a pair of Euphonic Audio wizzy 10's (15 lbs each) or a couple PJB C4 lights at 20 lbs each

Dany, I also live not far away from you, near Robertson and 3rd Street and you can test my recently bought build-to-order Carvin Micro MB115, 250 watt with a 115MBE extension, had Carvin install Celestian neo 15" in both. The amp cabinet weighs about 24.7 lbs, the extension about 22.8. Total price was $810.

I've heard an Aguilar 500 with two SL cabs is good for most clubs but I could have heard wrong.

It is amazing the light weight options you have though. Two of The markbass traveler 102P or 112H should be excellent I guess and each weighs about 27-30 pounds each

Of course you can go used and get it within budget..

IMO a pair of 12s is probably your best bet - either in one or two cabs. In your budget range, GK neos are your best bet. I have a Revsound 2x12 - 38 pounds, but it is around $750.
