Does anyone know of a really small full range cab that could be used with a low wattage amp for practice?

I'd like to find a really small cab for use with my Phil Jones Bass Buddy, which (in addition to being a great preamp and headphone amp) has a 10 watt amp output that can drive 4 to 16 ohm loads.

Yeah, the Bass Buddy has a killer headphone amp on board. Haven't used my Cafe Walter since I got it! I like the Grado SR60's best.

I'm looking for a *really* small cab (think miniature) for "out loud" practice at 10 watts.

That does look pretty cool! One of those cabs might just do it.

In another thread, SMASH suggested e-mailing Phil Jones and ask about making a 1X5. I don't know if it'd handle the low B, but it *would* probably be the most miniature bass cab!

Heh, thanks, I want one too, lol. I could use one, with my frequently dislocating shouledr (read my thread in OT "Stupid shoulder...") lol :D

I doubt the 5" would sound that good, especially witht the low B. I think that any smaller than 8" won;t give you much oomph. even if it isn't going to be loud, it's still gotta sound good. :)

The PJB Briefcase is too big. Who wants to lug that thing around. Doesn't it also have a car battery built into it......must be heavy. What we need is an 2x3 XST cabinet with maybe a 1x6 XLT "sub" to stack under it. Match that up with a Bass Buddy and you've got a mini rig that that could eat most stinking combo amps for lunch. ;)

Since this sounds like something that doesn't need to be portable, I think I'd be mighty tempted to go ebay'n for some el'cheapo near field home studio style monitors. Either just one or a pair if you can swing it. Should be able to get a used unpowered single Alesis m1 for well under $100. Might be a bit larger, but not by much. Plus it would give you something to run other music through.

Just a thought...

FWIW:

I live outside of Charlotte. Why don't you just go into Sam Ash or GC and plug in to some stuff and see what you get?

You may be suprised at how little the output is for bass. I wish the Bass Buddy was out when I tried to use a THD Univalve into a Vifa out of a Mackie824 mic'd to goof with a small tube rig. Think the Uni was about 15 watts.

Depending on what you call a full range cab, most 15's don't even drop to 40Hz. That Vifa was the best I could find and it would go to about 52Hz I think. Low end's not critical anyway. I'd think about taping into the speaker in a Roland Bass Cube 30. Never seen any spec but it does have a coaxial and Smash seemed as fond of it as he was the Bass Buddy and may even have given it a go, don't know.

Also Hambone ran across some small powered book shelf Advent speakers that he ran a bass through (5 string too I think) and he was suprised at the quality. I followed up and they were full range and went on ebay for like about $70 a pair at the time. Why put wear on the Bass buddy.

I also thought of using a one of those 3 pc sound systems with 2 satellites and a sub (the entry level "home theater" sort of thing).

Using the BB line out and seperate power for the speaker may be the best way to go. Looks like I'm stuck with using the Berg IP112-- it sounds pretty good at low volume...:cool:
