Smash Mouth Bassist?

I just saw Smash Mouth with a bandmate in a free concert, and I really liked the sound of their bassist. It looked like he used a Stingray bass. I'm not exactly well-versed in basses, though, being largely restricted to seeing Warwicks, Fenders (P-bass, J-bass, and I own a Bronco), Rickenbackers, and I once played a Stingray 5 at the music store.

Does anyone know what bass that is he's using?

Looks like a Gibson Ripper to me.

Yep. Could be a Grabber or G3, but it looks more like a Ripper to me from here.

He's also a wife beater. He pled guilty to assault and received no jail time. He was given 3 years probation, 200 hours of community service, a protective order for peaceful contact with the victim, 52 domestic violence counseling sessions, and fines and court fees.

Ironic that his band gets royalties from Disney movies for that (in my humble opinion) stupid "All Star" song. Obvious that we don't have all the information- but he looks like a total POS.

Yeah, he's a piece of poopie. But I liked the sound of the bass and it was a free concert with roller coasters, so no point in turning it down. Besides, I try to go to as many live shows as possible, even if I'm not a fan of the music.

Now I know what to try out when I go to the music store instead of just asking them for recommendations. I'm still trying to find a music store other than the independent one near me, one with a better selection. They're nice enough over here, but I want to try the bass before I buy it.

Absolutely! You SHOULD! Each guitar/bass is a different piece of wood and will have its own characteristics. You should hear that stuff and feel it out before you buy it
