Smashed up pick guard? Here's how I fixed mine!

Do what you like my man. Smart fix to wire direct. The bass looks alright to me. Ive used duct tape for strap locks many times. Never had a problem with it. Watch your hand around those sharp edges though.

Everyones idea about what is creative and what is good are different. I slag bands and musicians I dont dig all the time. I still have the sense to realize that all of my thoughts are opinon and not fact.

Interesting. The OP uses a bit of duct tape and metal to repair his bass, and some of you guys are giving him the 3rd degree. Meanwhile, there's a guy who stripped off the finish on his P-bass, revealing a remarkably ugly mis-matched multiple-piece body, which he a natural finish to, and all the posters in that thread gave him kudos.

The worry over the OP cutting himself is a valid concern, though.

Agreed. The band sounds pretty rockin' as well.

Also: "trench bass" as new vernacular.

This!

Get in touch with Pickguardian and order up an aluminum pickguard with no control holes. You can keep your wiring set up and it'll be a lot harder to break.

Rad website, but not my style. Why pay $50 to fix something I could do myself?

if your strap comes off so often that you need to duct tape it on you might as well duct tape the instrument cable into the jack at the bass and at the amp also.

I realize you're joking, but that's a big problem for me. I've broken several input jacks from the cable getting stepped on, not to mention the cable getting ripped out of the pedalboard several times each set. I'd still never buy a wireless unit. TOO MUCH FUN.

I got no issues with the bass. Your user name is slightly off putting.

Are you offended for the Jews? My whole family is Jewish. My grandmother is 1 of 2 children that left Poland in the 1930's. Her 10 siblings didn't leave, and "disappeared".

To some, mojo is a yellowing cracking finish with worn frets and a polished neck from all the runs your hand has made up and down it. To others, mojo is battle scars from going hard and losing it and generally not caring what happens to your bass. My instruments dont always fit into the former category. Sometimes I show them love by getting them out and knocking them around a bit. I'm not disrespecting my gear, and neither is OP. We're just showing them love as we see fit

This guy understands.

I wanna play a show with your band.
actually looking at your vid, if that's the basement of the underground in harrisburg PA we may have already played a show together.

We're out in Southern California, but we're planning a nationwide tour this summer. Can you link me to your band? We could set up a show.

I didn't say I was offended bro.

Are you sure about that, bro?

If you dudes are looking for something in the Detroit area let me know I should be able to get set up for you. I've tried the "beer cap strap locks" before. I didn't use the rubber Grolsch washers but caps from 22's of Mickeys, they tore right through my strap during the first show with them. I have a problem with picking too deep once we depending on adrenaline/alcohol levels and I've had to resort to hockey taping my hands up to avoid this...

I like your bass! I use to beat the cr*p out of mine as well, and they all have battle scares. But mine go to the m.a.s.h. when get woundet. :D

I like your way of improvising, but take care of your fingers... I would take a file and take care of the edges.

One advice: To prevent damadge in case of stepping on the cable, wrap it 1 or 2 times around the belt. So this will help. :D

The pickguard on my 1964 Precision is broken, too, but there's one layer made of metal in this pickguard, so this and an extra screw holds it together. And, compared to your crack, it's a minor one...

I broke some tuning pegs as well on an old Kasuga Jazz Bass. I later tried to smash this one on stage, but the mofo was solid as f*ck.... The bassman of another punkband, we shared the rehearsal room, bought that bass from me after this. He played it for several years. But this happened in the early 80's, I used to play in a punk band from 1978 to 1982. I am a bit older now and my basses are way more expensive now...
