Smooth Rounds

Unlike a poster above I've had great luck with the D'Addario half round. THe DR coated strings maybe your best bet particularly if you like the tension. I've also had good luck with the Balck Beauties.

I'm a TI guy. Super Alloys and JF's on everything. Jazz rounds don't do it for me. The tension is way too light for me and the tone was nothing to write home about... definately not the Super Alloy's little brother...

For the most part - it's SUper Alloy's for me. Tonally they are the complete package. Same guage as the BB's and a lot more interesting sound. Yeah - they aren;t all that smooth. I tough it out knowing that I can always pick up a baas with JF's on for the next tune if I have to...

TI Super Alloys for me too! I tried them all over a year and liked the Super Alloys the best.

I have half-rounds on my fretless.. it's the best of both worlds, giving me tones of smooth, full sound, but enough brightness left to really get a nice mwah when I need it..

I've tried Fodera nickels gauged 40-100. They're smooth and have a tension that's light without being spongy. Really good strings. Felt and sounded great on my Warwick. I prefer a 45-100 gauge, though, and Fodera doesn't make that.

I've recently found out that there's no such thing as "Fodera doesn't make that".....


Contact Martha at their customer service department and they will make you naything you want, in a week, for non-custom charges.

I had a custom set of strings made for my 5 string (60-80-100-120-145) and all through the ordering process, she acted as if I was pulling a set of strings off of the wall..... and the best part is that I still paid less than I would have for many other 5 string sets that are frequently discussed around here.
