The twin guitar band I play for has never, ever ever let a bass player run a direct out to the board. I actually had to "sell" them on the idea of lowering stage volume (this is a small club mind you) and letting the PA shoulder the load. Kind of like that scene in Animal House when Boone was telling Flounder it was ok about his brothers wrecked car. They LOVED it! It feels good to open up a new world!
