The geddy. You can get it in any coulour you like....as long as it's black!
also better bridge, pickup, neck, looks etc...I've heard bad things about the tuners though.
The Geddy and Highway One have the same bridge you know....
It seems like everyone goes with trends here. I started an almost identical thread, as those are the two basses I'm also looking at getting one of.
In my thread, the Geddy won by a fair amount. About 3 days later, somebody that obviously didn't know how to use the search function started the exact same thread as mine and this one. In THAT thread, there was an OVERWHELMING majority of people that said the Highway one.
This is ridiculous! The majority changes by the week.
Whatever you do DON'T listen to us, play both of them yourself before deciding. They're about equally built in my opinion.
As for me, I played both this past weekend. I found the highway one to be bright and zingy but was able to get a warm tone. I liked the neck and the feel of the bass. The tone didn't make you jump out of your skin, but it was very nice.
I'm a Geddy Lee fan and I love his tone and 70's style jazzes. When I played his model, I got the huge growl similar to geddy's tone. I COULD NOT however, get the bass to tame down and be warm and smooth.
Pros/Cons; The Highway comes in many colors, but has a thin Nitro finish that will check and wear with time (some like it as well). The Geddy has a durable poly finish, but only comes in one color.
The Geddy has 70's pickup spacing, while the HW1 has 60's. I've heard complaints and compliments about pickups in both basses.
The Geddy is known to be consistant and well-made, but the thin neck has apparently caused some bowing issues. The Highway One is made in America and has graphite rods in the neck, but is known to be less consistent in quality than the Geddy.
Do what your ears and hands tell you- not us. Personally I'm still undecided, but I'm going to be a rebel and say get the highway one! If you're playing mainly hard rock and you want to cut through- get the Geddy. If you venture into jazz or want a more full, sound with some top end twang, go with the Highway One. And use the search function! 2 other threads as I said have been made like this in the past month!
