of my three basses. I own a Fender Classic ‘60s Jazz Bass, a Squier Affinity Precision Bass, and a SX SJB-62CT 3TS. Here are some specs worth noting:

Fender: CS '60s pickups, 1-month-old DR nickel lo-riders (45-105), everything else stock

Squier: dead Ernie Ball slinkys (50-105), everything else stock

SX: Bayou Audio harness, dead GHS precision flats (45-105), everything else stock

In the clips, both pickups and tone are on full on both basses. The recording signal path was bass->direct out (pre eq) on Fender Bassman 150->Behringer mixer->Behringer interface->Dell. I uses Bayou Audio canre instrument cable and a Gepco mic cable. I didn't use any compression or eq on Audacity.

Now for the clips, I numbered them rather than using brand names to prevent as much bias as I could.

    Opinions welcome!

    I like the second.
  3. one sounds like new strings, balanced, ready to record.

two sounds like dead strings and not very dynamic

three sounds trebly or too overtoned

zShare's a pretty big pain in the arse... still wading through all the popups and waits to download.

Not that it's difficult to decide which is which, but I will officially reveal tonight. Which did you prefer?

1 is the best by far for me, since I don't like flats. 3 sounds good too, for a flatwound tone. I didn't dig 2, sounds muddy.

That fender sounds good! You shouldn't change the pickups in that thing!

It seems like the general concensus is that 1 sounds the best, no surprise there.

Just to clarify, 2 has flats on it, 3 has rounds.

Thanks! I really do love the tone, nothing wrong there. I did a coffee house gig last Monday and it sounded great through the PA. About the pickups, I am only considering Nordstrands and Lollars, but not for awhile.

zshare.com sucks - too much work to download all 3 while dealing with full page automated ads.

Clip one sounds good, but there's something about clip three that I like as well.

I'm getting pop-ups on that site as well, and I use wav files.
