I'll have to side with the mod on this one. And the OP seems perfectly aware of the dangers of big watts and effects issues. I routinely run an Aguilar GS 212 rated at 600 watts with a bridged power amp putting out 2000 watts. I've never damaged the speaker because I listen. That's one of the reasons why I play music...I love to 'listen'. Even at outdoor events where the audience was being subjected to ear-bleeding volumes from the PA I've never lacked for sufficient stage volume with the above mentioned setup nor pushed the Aguilar to the point of audible distress. Nice cab, btw.

How true. and may i add that I actually used to have an ME50B on the board, but it wasn't worth keeping on. I needed different pedals to get the sounds that were in my head out.

Anyways, Im comfortable putting trust in my gear and my ears in telling me when something is wrong. I'll also be muchmuchmuch more cautious having other people use the rig, seeing as it has the power to destroy itself (in theory), and whoever I'm loaning it to probably doesn't know that :scowl:

Agree with the "just be careful" concept. The Henry here has 700 watts looking at it but it's run through a dbx166xL AND I'm very careful.

Same era as my Henry the 8x8 I've got the matching SWR Basic 350

I know that Ashdown makes some sort of cabinet with 8" speakers in it. Maybe an 8x4? and to my knowledge the Henry is still being produced, in ever-evolving forms. The most recent is slightly newer than mine

Henry is a great cabinet. I stumbled upon mine about 13 years ago. It still cranks with no problems to date. I loved it so much I had to get another one to keep it company.

So i took the plunge today on a used Henry the 8x8 at a local sam ash (BTW, samash is n olonger carrying swr products except for what is in stock) and entered the world of "Big Cabs." My new rig BOOMS like nobody's buisness, despite the power of the head being higher than that of the cabinet.

The first thing i realized was how bassy this thing is. I set all levels flat and reworked my EQ to match the cab. I found myself actually boosting less bass than i did with the Nemesis NSP410 that i traded in towards this. furthermore, it cuts through anything (including pre-recorded mixes). I highly reccomend this rig to anyone looking for big sound in a medium sized package.

You'll be just fine. I've nearly always had a more powerful amp than what my cabinet has been rated at.

Also, I think you need more dirt on that board. Boss OD, MXR Fuzz and two Muffs. You need more.

I never understood the overpower concerns. Many professional cabinet manufacturers, like EAW and Bergantino, recommend powering the speakers with 1.5 to 2 times the rated power of the speaker.

Is there a whole stompboxes vs. multieffects thread on here somewhere? I've never taken the time to look, and frankly, talkbass posters seem too nice to wage war on each other.


Great cab, btw - I remember trying one out in GC back in '00 or therabouts. I couldn't believe it was only running 8" drivers - the thing sounds sweet.
