my dad got a ticket like that a while back. he was looking at possible jail and a huge fine and license revocation. he got a lawyer, he ended up with 1 point on his record. he was in his late fifties, which helped.

Just thinking here guys: If this is as serious as he says, given that the matter is as yet unresolved, do you really think he's going to announce exactly what he was up to in a public forum?
just punch the biggest dude you can find in the face really hard. If you do this the first day of your stint, you'll only have to be the boyfriend of one or two guys. Or girlfriend, depending how you work all the particulars out.
If things don't work out for you, OP, the only advice I can offer is to keep your back to the wall and a tight grip on the soap.
Unless your like me and you got pulled over for doing 95 in a 60, I doubt your going to jail.

Every time there's a thread about driving in OT, I read the posts and start thinking, "Man, there are more than a few loony drivers around here." Yeah, I've gotten a few tickets, but they've been for 15 over or so. Jeez, lighten up on the hammer a little, your manhood won't be in jeopardy.
Yeah, I've had 4 tickets in the 14 years I've been driving. 3 were for being over the limit by 15 mph or less.
But one was 38 mph over the limit on I-5 on my way home from San Diego about six years ago.
The backstory is that I had just upgraded from my first car, a metallic orange 1980 Honda Accord Hatchback that shook if I went past 65 mph.
Anyway, I was tired and with my new car it was riding so smooth that I had no idea how fast I was going. I saw the sirens and pulled over. The officer asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I said, "No, I know I was speeding, but I really don't know how fast I was going."
He says, "I clocked you at 108"
Without thinking, I said, "Wow."
He replies, "That wasn't the answer I was expecting from someone driving that recklessly."
Recovering quickly, I said, "I meant wow - I'm really sorry."
He wasn't amused.
But even for that ticket (which was a whopper) I was required to appear in court but all that really happened was a fine. In fact, because school was starting and I didn't want to miss a full day of teaching, I wrote a letter and didn't even have to appear in court. They just mailed me the ticket.

you must have been flying!! 2500, suspended and class 1 woo...This had to of been 30 over the speed limit so you got a reckless driving ticket too. If I were you I would speak with the states attorney (or district attorney) that is handling your case and ask for a plea agreement. If they are a$$es then I would plea not guilty, ask for a trial by jury and then march down to the states attorneys office in 3 weeks and ask for a plea agreement. Of course they still may not give you a plea agreement, but you haven't lost anything. You can change your plea before the jury trial just ask the judge before the trial begins. You don't have to have counsel present and you can represent yourself. However, I would recommend retaining counsel if you are looking at spending any amount of time in jail.....especially for a speeding ticket.

Hey, I've been caught doing way worse things with my car than speeding, involving things that I don't feel are appropriate for a public forum. And there were like six cop cars around me, cops everywhere. But the thing is, when I sat down with that prosecuting attorney, it took him all of two seconds to realize that there was no way I was going to let him stick his case to me beyond a reasonable doubt so he says, alright, I'll drop all of the criminal charges (and I was being accused of a hell of a lot of things) if you'll agree to pay a small fine. Not even a misdemeanor on my criminal record, nothing. The truth is, they don't care so much about traffic violations, they've got bigger fish to fry, and if you know at least that much, you can get a pretty sweet deal. It also doesn't hurt to know how to raise a reasonable doubt!
By the way, for a traffic violation, I don't see them not offering you a good plea agreement if you should plead not guilty.

I was going 84 on a 55 (outter loop of the beltway). In virginia it's automatically a reckless driving offense if you go over 80 regardless of the speed limit. I'm not worried much about jail than paying the lawyer and also having to pay a hefty fine if he doesn't do his job well or I get a mad-dog lawyer.
The financial effects of a criminal conviction and jail time are likely to far exceed the momentary cost of a decent lawyer. If you are facing a real possibility of jail time not getting a lawyer shouldn't even be a consideration.
I wouldn't hire a lawyer for a speeding fine, but this country is different than yours. You don't hire a lawyer for small things like a speeding ticket, and you won't have to go to court either. I got a pretty bad fine once for driving 111 on an 80 area (km/h). All I had to do was confess the "crime" and pay the €352 fine. I didn't have a record then, but if I've had that, I would have lost my driving license for at least a month. That would have sucked more than the fine.
