So, I'm off to a gig tonight.

An hour or so ago a friend of mine in a parody grindcore band called me up and tells me that their bassist can't make the show tonight and wanted to know if I could stand in for him.

Naturally I accepted.

This is despite them being a completely originals based band, with me not knowing how to play any of their songs and I have 2-3 hours to learn as many of them as possible. Oh, and I'm still a pretty noob bassist as well.

Wish me luck :hiding:

Good luck!

Try to learn their keys and favorite chord progressions, play by ear to the best of your ability, and don't flinch when you make mistakes. Most listeners won't notice them. Look relaxed, and try to smile, dance, or otherwise show the audience you're having a good time.

I just got back from this disaster. None of it was my fault however, as I was miming :hiding: They used the synth bass track from the guitar pro midi which also has their drum tracks, recognising that I wouldn't be able to learn 8 songs or so in 2 hours.

We got there, went up, I banged my head and had a good time. Nobody else did though... It was so bad the frontman had to impersonate recieving oral sex from a soft toy lizard for us to recieve any attention (No, I didn't make that up, he really did)

It was fun though, not having to worry about playing so much and just looking like you are.... Kinda like air guitar with a real bass :hiding: :D

Oh, and I forgot to mention that once I got off I recieved an onslaught of compliments for my bass tone. :ninja:

I must say that I have to agree with them :p
Hahaha. Yeah, you should have expected that.

I mimed once due to equipment problems (couldn't get a DI singal working) playing with a children's choir (so, slightly different from grindcore), and had another bassist ask me afterwards what my bass is and where he can get one like it.
