What rig would you get? My brother just sold his old car for cash and it got me thinking. I think the limitation of 4000 will keep out anything TOO crazy.

Dude, don't get a walrus. They're totally overrated animals. They just sit there waiting for fish to eat and when they bite, it sucks. Get a sea lion. They're more playable and make more noise.
Me, I'd get a nice GK 2001 RB rig with a 410and 115 and then get a decent compressor and rack tuner.

Yeah, 0n a serious note, 4 grand is a lot of money. Im going to agree with Capn, and say either GK or Ampeg full set up.

If I had $4000 I would take my time and try to check out as many Basses as possible. I would try Sadowski's, Fodera's, Ken Smiths, Tobias, Roscoe, Elricks, Zon, Dingwall's, Modulas, New Fenders, for Basses to name a few. Although this would probably put me over the Budget.
I would check out a few Amps particularly a TecAmp and find the best combination of Gear within that Budget and then make the purchase.
