So long...it's been a fun ride.

Good luck enjoy your life and relax but I have a feeling you'll be back it's in your blood and playing guitar won't be able to scratch that itch for long .I can see you driving one day and a song with a beautiful bassline will come on and you will be so shaken up that pulling over is the only option then you can go home smash that guitar and rejoin your place among us.

Nah, this isn't like other times I've quit playing or took time off from playing bass for a variety of negative reasons or even a reaction to something. This is just simply an obvious solution to a permanent situation. I've even thought about..."what would I do if the absolute perfect situation for playing bass again presented itself?" And the answer is always, "Sorry, I'll have to pass on that."

And for multiple reasons as mentioned in some of my other posts.
A) I have permanent damage to my elbow/wrist that makes playing bass anywhere from uncomfortable to downright painful. It's been getting worse over the years and yet I still didn't give up playing bass. It doesn't bother me much at all playing guitar (shorter scale having something to do with it, plus playing for myself I can just put the guitar down).
B) The music scene around here is horrible for any music I'd like to play. Even if it changed (highly unlikely), see A.
C) I work full time, go to school full time, have a family and I still need to sleep. Everytime I've been presented with an opportunity, I can't seem to rationalize any way of finding any time to learn material, much less rehearse with a band. Gig? Not likely. Even if I could find some time, well...see A.
D) I hear really cool bass lines all the time and my first thought is..."That's cool. I used to do that, it was a fun time. I can't wait to pick up my guitar and play for a while."

During the years, I have read many interesting thoughts and comments in your posts. Thank you and good luck with your future plans!
Thanks. Same to you. I'll probably check back here from time to time, just not for anything bass related. Maybe I'll just want some entertainment so I'll grab some popcorn and go read some contentious replies in the Amps forum. ;)

Best wishes.

Endeavors come and go. I agree, the scene in Wausau is pretty dismal. My nephew moved from Mosinee to Madison a few years ago to get into better situations as a bassist.

Jim

Thanks.

I was just in St. Louis this summer to visit my sister and my niece and her husband have a couple of businesses on Cherokee St. We went down to a new record label grand opening party and we stopped along the way to it and visited two other independent recording studios. Three recording studios on one street, all of them very cool, with interesting original music and it was very inspiring. Then I come back home to Mustang Sally, Brown Eyed Girl, 80's Hair Band crap, and Death Metal.

Sigh. So I'm playing guitar and I'm inspired to play music again.

Gotta say, I really don't get all the "you'll be back" type of comments. If you don't want to play bass anymore, that's totally fine! Do what you enjoy! It's great that you are enjoying playing guitar. Best of luck!

I understand it. In many ways, it's rationalization and validation. "How could someone quit playing bass when bass playing is so (fill in your most compelling reason here)?"

Heck, if I were 20 years younger, single and in better health, surrounded by a better music scene, and had more time, I'd still wanna play bass too. ;)

The ONLY thing that was keeping me even the slightest bit interested in continuing on with it was my killer gear sitting idle in my office. Now that it's gone and replaced by my killer Taylor 110e acoustic, I couldn't care less about playing bass. And I am really enjoying the guitar. I feel reborn in music all over again. So thank you! I do appreciate it.

I've been playing bass in bands for over almost 40 years now. I've been a member of TB for about 15 years or so. I met a lot of really cool, interesting people on here that have been so great, supportive, informative and helpful with just about any kind of question I've ever had. I've learned a ton, not only about bass and all the equipment, but about life as well. To all of you, I owe you a huge THANK YOU and a ton of gratitude.

I've also met some real jerks, asshats and people I'd never associate with in real life on here, and I appreciate meeting them too! We disagreed even on how to disagree and it's all good and cool with me.

After all my years of playing bass, I've spent the last 5 or 6 years trying to put something worthwhile together but the music scene around here sucks horribly (or is it sucks tremendously?) and musicians in this area have no balls and have forgotten why they even do what they do. So, I sold off all my bass gear, even my beloved (and one of the original) fEARful 15/6. I bought a beautiful Taylor acoustic guitar and I'm just going to play for myself, my friends and my family and write some music, develop my playing more and just enjoy music for the reasons I got into it in the first place. My only regret are these tiny little strings! LOL.

So goodbye to everyone here. I hope you keep playing bass with passion and spreading the love of the low end. Best damned bass website on the planet. I might perhaps check in from time to time. It's been a wild ride.

Peace and Love,

Mark (aka - Sundogue).

It's not like Facebook. You can't delete your account so we will always be here. Stalking your thoughts. Always . . .

Thanks.

there are a lot of ways to play music. Bass is not exactly a solo instrument for many, and Guitar makes a good instrument to play as accompaniment to write songs, Piano even better :)...
play what you like even if it's odd rhythms, and atonal drones. Music for pure enjoyment and fulfilling of your spirit is a thing that many people should experience.
Start recording, play all the instrument's yourself. the technology allows an individual to do amazing things these days.

First please yourself, and if others enjoy it IF you decide to share it all the better.
