So long...it's been a fun ride.

I've been playing bass in bands for over almost 40 years now. I've been a member of TB for about 15 years or so. I met a lot of really cool, interesting people on here that have been so great, supportive, informative and helpful with just about any kind of question I've ever had. I've learned a ton, not only about bass and all the equipment, but about life as well. To all of you, I owe you a huge THANK YOU and a ton of gratitude.

I've also met some real jerks, asshats and people I'd never associate with in real life on here, and I appreciate meeting them too! We disagreed even on how to disagree and it's all good and cool with me.

After all my years of playing bass, I've spent the last 5 or 6 years trying to put something worthwhile together but the music scene around here sucks horribly (or is it sucks tremendously?) and musicians in this area have no balls and have forgotten why they even do what they do. So, I sold off all my bass gear, even my beloved (and one of the original) fEARful 15/6. I bought a beautiful Taylor acoustic guitar and I'm just going to play for myself, my friends and my family and write some music, develop my playing more and just enjoy music for the reasons I got into it in the first place. My only regret are these tiny little strings! LOL.

So goodbye to everyone here. I hope you keep playing bass with passion and spreading the love of the low end. Best damned bass website on the planet. I might perhaps check in from time to time. It's been a wild ride.

Peace and Love,

Mark (aka - Sundogue).

I'll always have an affinity for bass. Though I started with guitar when I was 12, it's the first musical instrument that really opened my eyes (ears) to the possibilities in music. I've played guitar throughout my career as a bass player and I'm really digging it again, though with a more rhythmic approach even when constructing melodies.

And TB was/is the coolest music website. How can it not be? Bass players are the coolest. ;)

I doubt I will ever get back into bass playing and I certainly have no plans on playing in a band ever again. I'm 55 years old, spent a good dozen years or so when I was younger touring the country as a professional bass player, made a ton of cash, and met a lot of great people and then moved onto doing it part time as a weekend warrior. But I work full time, go to school full time and all I have time for musically is sitting down with my guitar and learning new things and writing new music. I haven't had this much fun with music in ages. Besides, gigging now isn't what I'm into because I'm a musical dinosaur. I played rock music back when rock was king and it was still counterculture and anti-establishment. Everyone these days panders to the lowest common denominator. It's time to let the young guys with fresh ideas attempt to take the stage back where it belongs. I just don't see it happening, especially not for me.

Life is just one 'goodbye' after another.

Something to consider: in the 5 or 6 years that you've been looking for serious musicians to jam with, someone you know (that isn't an asshat) could have bought a drum kit and, by now, be comfortably mediocre/ locked into any groove the two of you could produce. While I can understand your reasoning behind giving up, at the same time, you may want to pick up a cheap-o drum kit and a friend with some interest. 5 or 6 years from now, after you've come to your senses, you'll have the most important ingredients to any band. Either way, good luck!

Playing music is a journey. If your still playing guitar, writing, your journey just took another turn. Have fun, keep rocking.
P S If you still have any basses left, just send them to me. I'll put them to good use. Be well.
