So she's suing... ??!!!

Endemic of the human condition for a a lot of us. Something went wrong could it be me? No, it can't be me it must be someone else's fault. In our culture we sue.
Yes this person really messed up and child lost it's life becasue of it. But we also love to point out how someone is a stupid moron who should be sterilized etc. Have you ever done anything really stupid? I have done a few things. Yes, maybe you didn't cause a child to lose it's life but you may have screwed up in a way that hurt other people.

You make a valid point. However...

Some decisions that people make - such as the one in this story - are REALLY far into the deep end of the stupid pool. A 2-year-old isn't an immobile lump of flesh. They move, wiggle, walk, run, crawl, and climb. At that age, they also don't have an understanding of what is and what isn't a dangerous situation. It's the parent's job to protect them from themselves. Based on the information presented here, this is a CLEAR case of parenting failure.

The world is not and never will be idiot proof or child proof.

As the father to an almost 2 year old I would have walked in to that room and said "No way, not going to happen." On that note I think that someone should sue the maker of water for all the drowning deaths that occur when parents are on cell phones. We can't actually expect the parents to take some responsibility now can we?

Last weekend we were in a backyard with a pool for 7 hours. At no point were my wife or I ever more than 3 feet from our daughter at all times. At least one of us watched her like a hawk every second. I wish I could say the same for all of the other parents.

You're doing it right!

I've been in the luxury suites at Staples Center. I wouldn't let my 7-year-old sit on the edge of that balcony unless both my arms were wrapped around her, and even then, probably not.

I've been in that same situation where it's ended up being me watching not only my kids but other's kids as well. Not something I set out to do, or even wanted to do but damn....there are some really stupid-arsed parents out there. Kids don't know any better at that age. They do what they're programmed to do, parents though... damn some of them are no more mature than their kids. Scary thought

I have to think that The Staples Center has considered the safety of the Ledge and glass barrier in it;s design and construction phases.
I'm also willing to bet that the Lawyers and the arenas safety people have reviewed the barrier and deemed it not to be a hazard.

They are not going to set themselves up for a lawsuit by making it easy for someone to fall 50 feet.

I wonder How many (if any) other people have fell over the edge since the luxury boxes were opened.

There has to be more to this story. the only thing that we can say for sure is that the mother wasn't diligent in protecting her child.
