In other words, the talented, nice and honest guy is a "tool" because he didn't want to take money that might have been paid accidentally, and you're pissed because you and your bandmates would have liked the opportunity to split the cash whether it was meant for you or not.

Did you miss the part where the guy goes back and splits it with the bar? That doesn’t mesh at all with what you’ve said.

Obviously the C note was initially a tip and that guy is obviously a tool for mishandling it. That wasn’t his “situation” to fix. My guess is that dude doesn’t need the money and got something personally out of the show of “hey here’s your hundred, gee aren’t I honest”. He’s playing a game with your money. In the old days, that’d get you fired for sure. Now everybody’s a hobbyist and all are expected to act like money doesn’t matter. We’re doing it for the love of the music, man.

This is why I got out of the music side of the entertainment business and into the movie/tv side. I can't believe you would dress down your bandmate like this. Get over it, he's an honest cat.

As for the Cub Scout comment maybe you would have developed some character and learned some decency had you been one. Don't disrespect the Scouts. My nephew has been a Scout since the day he could join and at 16 he's already more of and a better man than you appear to be.

Your bandmate deserves better. No matter his flaws, he's clearly not a shyster.

While an extra hundo would be nice, coming across as honest is worth more to me in a local scene. In my experience, you never know who is going to end up where in the local scene and that image of the consummate and honest professional would hopefully lead to more gigs.

If the singer didnt clarify the purpose of the extra money, then why do you assume it was a tip? Because it suits your purpose? He absolutely should have spoken with them at the time it was given to him, and determined if it was a tip, an accidental overpayment, or something else. To get all butthurt about it without knowing more is just childish and presumptuous. And to keep it, if you might believe that it was an unintentional overpayment is no better than stealing. I’ve been screwed by bars before, but have never behaved similarly. You are defined by your behaviour, and people have long memories. Is a couple bucks of ill-gotten gain worth that cloud over you? Dont assume its a tip, understand the deal or ask the singer to understand the deal. In otherwords, do the right thing.
