Actually I tend to just ignore imoticon/emogee/meme-only messages as I never quite know what they mean... I do like evidence-based debate/discussion. But conjecture under false premise ("anyone who collects stuff is a hoarder because I saw it on TV") is not evidence.
I very seldom err on the side of brevity in my posts on this (or any) forum...or in face to face conversation.
I am going to refrain from giving a complete response to the Wiremessiah, I know for sure that it would turn into an unpleasant exchange that nobody here would enjoy much.
My lack of self control with my mouth (or fingers in this case) often leads me into exchanges that I regret after all is said, and I've offended the person I am addressing and sometimes others as well.
So, in this case, being the emoticon guy is me using as much restraint as I can muster, hence the zipper on my mouth emoticon after enjoying a laugh.
I think the Jack Casady bass that Darkhorse picked up was a nice find, and I'm sure he will put it to good use and enjoy playing it....which is all that really matters.

I actually am bringing the Casady bass out with me for this weekend gigs and give it a "trial by fire!" After Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shows, I should know whether it's a keeper!
About the cassady. Do you find all the impedence settings useful? Thus far I haven't found much use for anything but the loudest one.
I'm just now using it live for the first time. I'm on the highest setting, though I could use any of them. I think I'm a quieter setting or a recording situation the differences will be more important
Thats whats called a strawman argument. But hoarding and collecting are no different, except perhaps in scale. We are all hoarders to some degree, owning completely unncessary things, and justify them through choice supportive bias. I dont believe in sin, but there is some practical philosophical value to the seven deadlies, such as not being a glutton. Anyway life being as complex as it is, i find that simplicity in any aspect of life is invaluable.
That's been my experience. The tone control really works well with the impedance selector, and together they give you a lot of choice, esp. for recording.

I agree there might be a fine line between collection and hoarding, and sure there are people who collect basses yet can't play a note who may (to some degree or other) fit your analysis, but a working musician and his/her tools of the trade do not.
I think its time to call time on the strawman in this instance...
Do I agree that some folks are hoarders and buy things they don't need and will never use? Yes!
If Dark Horse was a visual artist and he picked up a deal on a silkscreen setup, even though he already had oil paints, watercolours, charcoal pencils etc, would you call him a hoarder?
