Again back to the charfoal pencil sets. An artist can have 50 of them and claim the choice of which to use is considered and deliberate, but is it really? Are you going to say a bass player is better with more basses than one with a single really good one ?

You are reaching for a way to justify your gear lust. I think its better to just control your impulses and find new appreciation in a main instrument. The relationship with ones instrument to me is almost sacred and more instruments just dilute that relationship.

I've owned and played my main player since 1987. I bought my one and only Stick in 1989, and still have it. I bought a Ray34 (hardly extravagant) a couple of years ago because I needed a fretted bass (some things even I can't do with my hands) and a bought a fretless 2008 German Corvette because after 30 years my main player is going into semi-retirement due to fingerboard wear and having little scope for further dressing - you could say I've worn away almost an entire fingerboard! As it happens I'm not bonding with the Corvette so it will probably be replaced (on a one-in-one-out basis) by a fretless StingRay in the next few weeks, subject to condition.

I've had a few other instruments over the years, but never more than 2 fretless and one fretted plus the Stick at any time.

I have one really nice amp (Genz-Benz Shuttle), a few high quality pedals and a few other small bits and bobs I picked up along the way.

I have a 1991 Fender Stratocaster that I've had since 1995 and a relatively cheap acoustic guitar that enables me to bang out a few tunes when friends come over and we have too much to drink.

Please tell me about my "Gear Lust".

WM, I am crazy and I buy 2-5 basses every freaking day since 1978 and I have so many basses at home and in the studio! Actually I can't even count them all! Yes, I'm a very bad materilalist and I love the money and I'm rich and I spend all my money on electric and upright basses. And I am a professional bass player too (studied an upright bass at Berklee colege of music back in the '80s)! Listen to me, I just bought another 5 string hollow body bass with flats just 5 minutes ago! And right now I'm looking at a very nice used fender american special sunburst jazz bass and you know what, I'll buy it too! Oh and that's why my ex wife left me 6 years ago. LOL.

Dark Horse, those epiphones are great basses indeed! I bought my semi-hollow epiphone zenith bass used in mint condition for $400 last year and I love it! Congrats!

Those Zeniths are beautiful. I've never had a chance to play one, but I've heard good things about them !

Everything else is traded or sold. I buy them, try them, keep them if i feel the need, move them along if I don't. Pretty simple really. This "system" allows me to check out instruments without typically taking a significant loss.

The Eastwood is an endorsement deal bass. The Allen Woody is a gift from my brother. The CHC was made for me by a friend of mine. The Darkhorse ones are ones that I've built myself.
