So...UPS is basically useless?

Earlier this year I ordered an expensive hardshell road case from SW, which came via their default carrier, FedEx. It arrived damaged/smashed. SW took it back and sent a replacement. FedEx damaged and smashed that one too. SW took the 2nd one back and sent a 3rd case via UPS. It arrived perfect.
The destruction in transit of two consecutive hardshell cases fascinates me.

Issues with UPS or any other carrier are region specific. UPS, and FedEx are good in the NW suburbs of Chicago.

I suggest looking for other numbers to call UPS and mess with them until you get a live person. It's true that most companies force the automated menus, but if you are patient, you can get to an operator.

You can sometimes get good contact information at gethuman.com I've had some success using information at that website for getting in touch with businesses that seemed otherwise un-reachable.

But yeah, UPS/FedEx/USPS all have good and bad service, depending on where you live. I've had great and terrible experiences with all three, I wouldn't rate any of them significantly better or worse than the others.

i dislike piling on ("look on the bright side of life" is now playing on my speakers... :roflmao:) but since it happened two days ago, i'll vent.

had a scheduled delivery on saturday between 9:45 and 1:45. did chores around the house and kept an eye on the ups delivery map to see where the brown truck was presently at in my neighborhood.

i live in a gated community but all a visitor needs to do is raise their party on the gate's intercom to open the gate.

at around 1pm, the truck was about two blocks away so thought i'd meet them at the gate just in case.

i get to the gate to see the ups truck drive by. soon after, i receive the "sorry we missed you" email.

didn't even try... :banghead:

oh, well. it's back out for delivery in a couple hours so, should be ok in a few... o_O :bored: :D

I have received the sorry we missed you notification as well...and I don't even live in a gated community. Of course I was waiting a few feet from the front door; no knock, no doorbell, no sounds of a big brown truck driving by.

If they actually miss me, they put a sticker on my door...so total BS.

I have never really noticed much of a difference between various shippers. Most of the stuff I receive comes via UPS or Amazon.

I really can't stand these threads.

A family member of mine is a UPS driver. If those who complain about not getting their precious items on time had any idea of the volume of packages they move, and how hard these people work, they might actually shut up and show some appreciation. 10-12 hour days in every type of weather, extra hours on weekends, time away from family. These workers run themselves ragged basically for YOU.

I guess I am fortunate with UPS terminal, and store in same building less than a mile away. I usually go over to terminal and pick my shipment up there. I usually call my tracking number the night before to them, and tell them hold for pickup, and I get it without having to wait for driver to deliver. Which is usually about 6 hours after status says out for delivery. Yes I have experienced some questionable boxes,UPS and FedEX. Don't care for USPS for shipping bass guitars.

They also have the option of getting a more enjoyable job AND/or doing their chosen-career UPS job to the best of ability while earning remarkably good pay.

Don't make excuses for the Big Machine by pointing out you have one rusty cog in the unhappy wheel. EVERYONE who deals with UPS on a regular basis knows that is a bad joke of a business, with employees that consistently do as little as is necessary to have a paycheck.
Lol family is absolutely PROUD of his work and is part of a great team. Plus the pay is outstanding, and the benefits are excellent.

After the UPS wage strike threat, they cut my delivery person's route so now all of my work deliveries are on the back of the pick up guy, who shows up at 4 PM. Now my customers have to wait an extra day essentially, since we close at 4:30. Earlier in the year they cut a third of the drivers, so it's a nightmare where I am.

With that said, I'll still use UPS over FedEx any day. FedEx drivers are contractors and when they decide to not do their job, there's nothing you can do about it.
Yup. I'm gonna guess this the main issue. I believe there's a vote soon to ratify a new contract. Hopefully after that things settle down. (I'm with the drivers on their threat to strike, but that's a more complicated convo).
