So...UPS is basically useless?

Umm every company in the world
sees the person giving them money as the customer.
Yup. Problem is that providing a product to a customer, which said product disenfranchises or deceives that customer’s customer, is not only a shallow business model, but actually misrepresents the product or service. Just because the recipient isn’t paying UPS directly does not absolve UPS of responsibility. In the long term. We’ll see how it goes in the short term; since UPS clearly sees the model you verified.

1st world problem, seriously. You're not expecting human parts or your sole meals for the month. What does it change if it comes in a week ?
Not the point. Suppose you schedule significant auto maintenance on a particular day, arrange for time to be without the car, arrive at the shop, and are told, “no, we’ve decided to do your scheduled maintenance tomorrow.” That is not a First World problem, though the material in question may be a First World activity. Telling someone one thing and then doing a different thing is fundamentally misleading and disingenuous.

He!! yes they should, and so should everyone working that hard to take care of others. When many people - myself included, but certainly not everyone here - were privileged to work from home during the pandemic, it was the drivers from UPS, USPS, FedEx, Amazon, OnTrac, and whoever else I'm missing, that took the risks and put in the time, often with abundant uncertainty and awkward, difficult COVID protocols, to make sure that folks had what they needed. I have often reflected that the USPS and its mission are among the most patriotic of our institutions.

Do delivery services mess up sometimes? Yes, especially at the corporate level, but of course at the individual driver level as well. The frustrations described here are valid and I've experienced it too. But I also profoundly appreciate each of those drivers that goes out there and gives it their all for every long day- even when it's over a hundred degrees or a downpour out, and even at the holidays when I can't even imagine when they even sleep.

At the last place I lived, the neighborhood loved our UPS driver so much they threw him a retirement party.

It must be a regional thing.
UPS has never let me down. - In decades.
The drivers I've had are exceptional.

Last week's Bass delivery was just one case in point; The driver stayed several minutes and even video-taped the unboxing for me. (he knows the routine);) Refreshments were provided of course, and there may or may not have been a tip.)

FedEx on the other hand...:rollno:
Last time FedEx delivered a bass, they drove by 3 days in a row; "out for delivery".
Just didn't feel like stopping that day.
I'm in the UPS ONLY camp.

So I know this is blasphemy but - maybe we should just stop buying and shipping so much xxit?

That has a LOT to do with why I never order anything anymore unless I HAVE to.
ALL these braindead shipping companies took all the fun out of buying stuff I don't need with money I don't have:facepalm:

Otherwise you get it when you get it.

If I actually got it I wouldn't be fussing in public :bored:

I shouldn't have to pay extra for them to deliver it to the right street, let alone the right house, and don't get me started on USPS . . . they SUCK the most!
With them I have to be out at the mailbox at the time of delivery or I won't get it at all.:rage:

I have a UPS delivery scheduled for today.

Yesterday, they informed me that they would deliver between 12:00 and 3:00PM. Fine; we have a previous commitment around 5:45PM. No problem.

Today, when I can no longer change delivery options, UPS informs me that delivery will occur before 7PM. Oops.

I try to contact a human being. Not possible. AI is 100% dysfunctional. No information on options there.

I sign up for My UPS. But wait; when I select Change Delivery Options while signed in to My UPS, the website just asks me to join My UPS again. Try different devices, new login etc. Same result.

I guess this company is now wholly unaccountable with no human interface, a completely dysfunctional web site, and just lets their drivers / schedulers change delivery at their convenience.

I can see why previous posters have gone to Will-Call only. Maybe the web site will let me do that after a failed delivery.

Clearly, UPS sees the shipper as the customer, and the recipient as something beneath dirt, and to be ignored.

I get it that humans cost money. But, one might expect just a little bit more from the web site programming. Pathetic. My grandfather would have referred to them as "no-accounts."

Edit: the saddest part is that both I and the delivery folks are losers in the picture; because the delivery folks may now have to make other arrangements, which means costing UPS more resource time to deliver the same thing. The only winner is some highly paid jerk sitting in an office in a high rise who just doesn’t want to be bothered to figure it out.
UPS SUCKS. They are overly high on anything I tried to send in the mail.

It's all a part.of their $170,000 bonus scheme that they just negotiated. Pay us more to do less™
You mean the scheme they got to pry profits out of the clammy hands of their investors and into the pockets of the people who actually do the work? We should be so lucky to have a union that can actually get something done.

I’ve had major letdowns from UPS on many occasions for years now. I won’t repeat here all the sob stories from the past as it would take way too long. But I regard them as the very worst organisation I have ever had to deal with- incompetent, poorly managed, poorly trained staff, unhelpful, uncaring and uncooperative. As I have said previously, I would not trust a UPS driver to deliver reliably a stream of urine after ten pints of cold lager. There is a very good reason for their uniforms being brown.

Issues with UPS or any other carrier are region specific. UPS, and FedEx are good in the NW suburbs of Chicago.

I suggest looking for other numbers to call UPS and mess with them until you get a live person. It's true that most companies force the automated menus, but if you are patient, you can get to an operator.
Fedex sucks too. It took them 6 months to find a package for the company I work at.

I attempted to ship a Ken Smith BSR5P thru a UPS store in Boston a few years ago. The bass never left the store and disappeared after I dropped it off. It took 8 months to get the buyers $5700 back. What a nightmare.

I never use the to ship anything with after that. Currently; every package I’ve gotten for the last two years is literally soaked and covered in dirt, because the drivers run around out here on Oklahomas dirt roads with the doors open. Every package I receive has to be blown off with compressed air and wipes down with a wet rag before I can even open it. The contents are always covered in dirt no matter what.
