So...UPS is basically useless?

I've had many recent UPS delivers where the "goal posts" were being moved mid-day as to delivery time. When that occurs, and you've stayed home to sign for an in-person only delivery it is frustrating. Last week I was waiting for a bass delivery, had the tracker working just fine showing a delivery by 3pm. Was able to watch it buzz all around my street for hours, only to have it update to delivery by 7pm right at 2:59 on the clock..lol
I had the same thing happen.......I went to where the tracker said the UPS truck was and luckily was able to get my package.

Just another example of companies seeking to completely eliminate human interaction. It's nearly impossible to get a human at any business to talk on the phone. A Kroger grocery store is experimenting with an all-self-checkout model. Have human beings become such a pain in the a** to employ and to deal with as customers that companies are going out of their way to avoid them in any way? If that isn't a sad state of affairs, I don't know what is.

Bear in mind........UPS doesn't have to be good.......they just have to be better than USPS......and Fedex.......which is like a bunch of USPS employees quit and started their own company.

Contacting UPS is a wasted effort. They have designed their customer service system to prevent human contact. So you are at the mercy of their delivery systems flowing without hiccups, which is often the case. I rarely have a problem with UPS shipping or receiving. But when I do, it's a PITA to get an answer from anyone at the company.
So I hope for the best with UPS and often use a different company for shipping.
IF they're not careful, Amazon is going to put them out of business as they continue to develop Amazon shipping.

I really can't stand these threads.

A family member of mine is a UPS driver. If those who complain about not getting their precious items on time had any idea of the volume of packages they move, and how hard these people work, they might actually shut up and show some appreciation. 10-12 hour days in every type of weather, extra hours on weekends, time away from family. These workers run themselves ragged basically for YOU.
The good news is that they are extremely well compensated and with the new collective bargaining agreement they will be making as much as 4 school teachers.

I’m a nurse, I work hard too. Albeit it’s not packages. My wife is a teacher, she works even harder.

Work is hard. Still have to do it well.

Our UPS driver is awesome. We love him.

I don’t trust the company at all. And they gouge Canadians on fees.

But I’ve been much happier since I “went 1990s” on all shipping companies. I simply act like scheduled delivery days and times, or my knowledge of them, don’t exist. Sometimes I have to pick up a package because I wasn’t home. But that’s better than adjusting my plans to an AI with no “I”

UPS problems seem pretty localized in nature. I’ve had the same 3 ups drivers for the last 10 years, one for each house I’ve lived in.
They’re all great, always delivering stuff at around the same time everyday give or take 30 minutes, sometimes running behind around the holidays with extra stuff being delivered.

I’ve never had to deal with their 800 number madness like that, the couple times I’ve had to call I’ve never really struggled to get a hold of anyone. If I did have those struggles I might pop over to a UPS store and ask them for a number or a trick to get a hold of a live person. Your local UPS store probably even has a direct line to your local delivery guy.

Probably just need to realign your expectations. Expecting someone to hit a 3 hour window like that shouldn’t be unreasonable, but in modern society if you’re willing to stake something serious on that window then good luck to you. There are worse things in life than getting your package the day after it was supposed to arrive.

When it comes to buying basses online, I will NOT consider going through with a transaction anymore unless the seller is willing to ship via the postal service.

I did have a couple of basses arrive in the past wherein the courier outfit left the box in plain view on the step, in the carport, etc. With Canada Post, I get a slip in the mail, and I go to the nearest postal outlet (which is right on my way home from work), present the slip, and take the package...no muss, no fuss.

I'm not saying the postal service is perfect, but the simple fact that the package arrives at/stays in a secure building until I pick it up at my convenience is reason enough to go that route versus a courier.

I live in a smallish town in northern NH. UPS and FedEx are pretty good up here. even the USPS is OK. but I know the UPS driver and he is excellent. he puts stuff inside my breezeway and is generally careful. FedEX tends to leave things on my stoop outside, even if it's raining. I also have known my USPS delivery person for 25 years and he's been great. of course I always give him something for Xmas as well!

No delivery service is perfect and IME, all are purt durn gud most of the time, but yeah, the trend of obliterating any human contact options is maddening, for a whole lotta reasons. Still, it's a miracle a bass can travel overseas or x-country in a few days ;)

FedEx is worse in terms of delivery windows and whether the package gets there. If it gets to a hub early, they'll hold it till the day it's actually scheduled for delivery. FedEx will sometimes leave packages without a receiver home, sometimes they won't. Totally unpredictable. UPS, however, is the only shipper in my experience who successfully broke the neck on a bass before it was delivered to me, and delivered a different bass to a completely wrong address at an industrial warehouse because, according to the rep I spoke with, 'someone told the driver the package was supposed to be delivered there.' That someone wasn't me, and I didn't even know anyone at the address where it was delivered. Luckily it was a business just down the road from me and they were just as confused as I was and held the box. Shady.

I do not pay attention to the delivery times on the website. I know from experience approximately when UPS and FedEx and USPS all come around. USPS is around 3:30-4:30, UPS is always in my neighborhood right around 4 pm, and I usually get FedEx before 3 pm all regardless of when it says it will arrive.

The biggest fluctuation is Amazon, could be 10 am, could be 8 pm.
