So what did I do wrong while building these cabs?

I'm interested in hearing again from the OP when he gets a chance to modify the cabs.

As noted more than once in this thread, a cab can be modified. Ports can be added or deleted, port tubes can be added, and phasing can be checked (both inside each cab, and comparing the cabs to each other).

I don't think the OP is done yet, and I bet he gets improved performance from those cabs once he has a chance to tinker with them.

I'll second that. Even if it will not be a Greenboy design ;)

I also agree. My first time using WINISD I didn't like the sound and redesigned the ports (plugged the slot port in the original design and cut 2 round ports made of PVC pipe) and second try was much better... I had to repaint the front baffle after my port redesign.

Along the way I learned that the (previously unaccounted for) volume the driver took in the cab and the volume of the internal bracing was changing my port requirements (by lowering cab volume), partly accounting for the poor sound first time around... If at first you don't like it - retune the cab by changing the port(s). Changing port length is easiest but not always the answer. Changing the diameter and the number of ports gives you a lot of tuning capability, run several different port combinations in WINISD, check air velocity and build the most promising version.

Modern school of thought seems to be a minimum of 2 ports mounted one near the top and one near the bottom. This arrangement promotes convection cooling for the drivers, useful for MI cabs.
