So what exactly is this? Nordstrand Tone Drop

Ugh. I really like Nordstrand pickups, but as time goes by more and more of their product descriptions read like multivitamin multilevel marketing scams.


The description for the Zen Blades really made me not want to bother trying them out

No I think they're just describing it in a weird way..
All they're talking about is the trick where you find a tasty spot of tone by rolling off the volume the tiniest bit and listen for a sweet spot on the tone pot

yeah, the sweep is nice, it's not drastic. It's just a way to have a different tone option on hand...I knew I was rewiring the DC so I splurged for it. I'm going to get the powerblades again for a project P....they absolutely kill

Nordstrand's products are great. Who cares about that silly ad copy? Just read the specs and watch some YouTube videos if you're interested.

I have never read their marketing stuff.

I think it's really funny, actually - I love stuff like that, I write and talk like that sometimes just to be weird. And I'm weird a lot.

BUT, I'm also very direct and accurate and specific about things when it's important, or I follow a stupid joke with solid facts.

The copy needs an asterisk with the real description right below that stuff.

i'm gonna bypass most of the comments here, as they gratuitous.

i'm using the higher level .12 (or whatever) caps. i like what they do more than i like the .047.

i noticed a difference and was happy with it. showed a friend who is a pretty well regarded bassist in the sf bay area and he was pretty impressed and interested in how it changed the sound differently.

so, to my ear it was a pleasant change/difference. you may not care for it.

i don't need the tone drop, but some people might find it useful.

wait, are they using a .47 and a 1.x? why not use 2 .47s and have the switch add the 2nd one to equal nearly 1.x?

If yer gonna have 2 separate caps, of different values, why not make it a 3 way switch in some fashion so you can get 3 tones out of it (1, 2, or 1+2)? I know, it's push pull.. but why not a regular tone knob plus a rotating ring that switches between cap combinations?

for that matter, why bother with this at all compared to the numerous combination switch systems for tone caps that already exist?

ah, they don't float on dragon's breath.... I forgot.

To be fair, the price tag is pretty inline with what people seem willing to pay for their preferred potentiometer brand (the Bourns pot pictured typically being the most easily sourced high quality push-pull pot), and two "orange drop" caps. I don't think selling it as a whole plug and play package at 40 bucks is really out of line with what people seem to think is fair for these products.
