You people need something more important to get mad about. I could suggest a few topics but I don't want to get banned.

Nordstrand not only makes some of the best pickups, preamps, and basses in the business, they are some of the most down to earth, honest, and nice people you will ever deal with. If you call the shop, they will talk to you in plain English. My take on the ad copy is that it is a just a humorous way to poke fun at the futility of communicating the differences in tone between pickups/capacitors/whatever.

Yeah I was looking at getting some of their pickups, read their copy and was like 'uhh... yeah maybe not'.

so what it is: about six bucks worth of components (if purchased retail) and some creative but not very enjoyable to read ad copy
also this was the first mod i ever performed on a bass (a friend's mim pbass that had a passive emg and a tone knob that just spun and spun and spun) and it was a waste of time and parts
on the plus side at least they didn't encase it in epoxy and pretend it's something that it's not

Push pull switching between cap values is what I got, but that whole thing about finding a resonant peak between the two makes it sound like the two caps are blendable. Like you pick a cap, set tone where you want it, pick the other cap and the first is still in effect. Odd.

it's just due to the pickup's inductance and the tone capacitor's capacitance. so of course if you change the capacitor that'll change
edit: and I'm pretty sure this is only applicable when the tone control is basically 0 anyway. any higher and you're getting effects from the pot's resistance instead of the capacitor

It's a tone circuit (variable resistor and capacitor in shunt to ground), just like you'd have in most passive basses, but, when you pull the pot, it triples the capacitance in the circuit from .047 uF to .147 uF.

You won't notice a difference at full or even half tone, but with the tone off, it will sound different.

Yeah, the descriptions and copy will definitely alter the tone and character of the product. You'd best avoid...

Ok, some of you guys need to loosen up a little bit. Rather than copy filled with vague and pretentious adjectives (WAY too much of this throughout the music industry), this is a humorous spin on marketing, aimed at younger generations.

I agree, but the page that describes a product is not a good place for this. Out of context it doesn't really work, as seen in this thread

If it was a zany website with a lot of jokes it would work on a product description. But the only humor you can find there is the name of a line of products called " rocket surgeon", and this picture:

I read the colorful and almost poetic Nordstrand description "schlock" without any understanding of what the h*ll they are talking about.

Anymore before I swallow anybody's "BS" on a product...............I do my research and read a multitude of reviews before I EVER buy anything.

I think the description is great! It's so over the top, that it's clearly mocking adjective laden descriptions of sumptuous sonic bliss. It's a choice between two roll off caps. And in reality, there's not much to say about that.

It basically a two position varitone switch with the ability to have sweepable tone. I love it with my Novak Thunderbird pickup in my Gibson DC

So will the .1 be darker sounding then the .047? As in If I have the tone rolled all the way off and I'm in .047 mode it will sound kind of dull....if I switch to .1 it will have almost no highs...really dubby sounding? If this is the thing it does I could use one.

Yes. Dubtastic would be the word. I really dig it. It's less of a jump than you think it is.
