So why ampeg?

I bought my Ampeg out of word of mouth and giving it a shot in the shop before I bought it a number of years ago. I was looking to downsize my HUGE peavey rig to a medium sized combo. I ended up with an Ampeg BA-220SP. (Seems to be not as popular as some of their other combos). It did the job gigging with my last job.

Lately though, I've fallen in love with Mark Bass. I've yet to own one (Only had the privilege of trying...) but they are "THE" tone I've been looking for.

Also, I haven't tried ampegs bigger and better or even their vintage stuff. What I bought years ago is quality. I like it but I'm sure there's better, even within the company. Other brands are pulling me these days though. :D

Vetchking Here:

Acoustic ruled the world in the late 60's through the early 80's.

Ampeg took over.

AMPEG was Great.......... Great amps.

Just like "acoustic" pro gear.

Ampeg is just Famous.

Fame is big.

The new Ampegs are made anywhere they can make them.

Vietnam, then China......... Where next. ?????

AMPEG is just a LOGO now............

What a shame...............

Got to disagree here. Acoustic flashed by in the early 70's,became cheap second hand by the mid 70's. Ampeg on the other hand was there before Leo built the P-bass. You couldn't attend a high school dance where there wasn't a B15 thumping. I got my full SVT in 1970 both cabs was the real deal. They backlined the Stones and a ton of other rock bands. I have owned narly every "B" labeled amp from them over 40+ years and that monster SVT,just because they sounded good and stood up. I'm currently running a B2r and a B4,both USA made simply because of the solid state attribute. (I have my tube amps but for road work you just can't drop a Hi-Watt out of the truck and hope the tubes still light) Ampeg is on tough times so am I you too no doubt. But They got my respect for what the have done and thier place in the bass pantheon. Thinking back now? what happened to that Fullerton company that made guitars? didn't they just disappear forever?

yeah i do play my Kay DB through my SVT 2 Pro...i use a switcher to switch from electric to upright, and use the switchable EQ for the Kay...i just cut some lows and throw in a little mids and highs...sounds huge! there are a few people i have seen down here in nashville using ampeg gear for DB...i would love to have a B-15 Portaflex!!!

Trust me.....when the new Acoustics FINALLY come out....you and I will be doing business.......:D

Look....I have been a faithful user of Ampeg products for many, many years. I was also a faithful user of Acoustic (re: Whiskey A-Go-Go 1969) until they closed shop. I am sad to see the "state of affairs" at LOUD and wish that the company was prospering. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be in the cards.

Still....it tickles me when the respondents state that YOU have the history wrong.....

Hey Buster.... you get it.

Hell I said Ampeg was great............. They had great stuff.

How do I get in trouble for saying that................... LOL

HELLO EVERYONE....... Acoustic Ruled......... Check out the Players.

Jacoo did not have the wrong amp........... Nor did JPJ.

James Brown..... on and on.

Ampeg also shared the high end market............ The problem is Ampeg now is crap.

NOt my words........... Read People............ Read............ The info is out there.

I'm just reporting.......... Not even my opinion.

The great Ampegs are old amps and still great.

The 40 year old acoustic's still rock, funk, and can be played like a cello.

There ya go................... Hey guys Quit buying a LOGO.

It's over........... Ps. Messa Boogie made some great Bass amps........ current status unknown.

Later................... Ps. the b15 is a legandary studio amp... I've produced 18 albums. Great amp.

It's exactly like Fender IMO. They were the classic sound, and most people just loved that classic design. They got it right the first time.
After a while big companies realised this and bought them out (Fender and Ampeg). After that they started going downhill. While there are many other companies out there that make great (even better) basses and amps then Fender and Ampeg, they are a classic sound and always will be (I don't even like either of the companies or there sounds very much, but it's the truth).

You can get them cheap used?
They've been around for a long time but for the money you can get something better nowadays.
If it sounds good the way you play it then buy it.

I;ve had my B4R for 5 years and never had anything go wrong (minus the initial board replacement, but what can I expect for 300$ off ebay?)

Just tired of lugging it around, and I know I can get better tone elsewhere.
