So why ampeg?

I've never regularly used an Ampeg head, but I use an Ampeg 410 HLF now and have used other Ampeg cabs in the past. The only Ampeg heads I ever cared for were the classic SVT CL's, but I don't have the bucks to purchase one nor roadies to cart that or the 8x10 fridge it was born to be paired with, IMO.

The 410 HLF is funny. Alone in my house, I think the sound is just ok. With a drummer and two guitarists, I think it rocks.

Well, exactly. The original question was something like..."Why Ampeg"...and I will state, for the record again. I love Ampeg. Always have. I use them today. I currently run a SVT4Pro and a SVT6X10HLF...both are incredible (at least to MY old ears!) and, in the end, isn't that what counts??

But I also agree that "buying a logo" is a recipe for disaster. Companies (no matter WHAT they build - amps, cars, books - makes no difference) that have held a large market share for a large number of years tend to get "fat and happy". They tend to take their customers for granted.

It happens to everything. It has happened to Ampeg to the point that it will probably cost them (LOUD) their brand name in Ampeg.

Tough! There is always a valuable lesson to be learned by the 30s something MBAs that find that their business model didn't "perform to expectations". THE PUBLIC DOESN"T CARE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS MODEL! THEY CARE ABOUT PERFORMANCE!

Hence the name - MarkBass - and yes, I LOVE 'em!!

Don't buy a logo. Yes I said that......... I mean that in todays market.

I love quality brand name everything.

( not to be confused with over priced designer ****.)

Many many companies have bastardized their product. Clothes, Shoes, Lightbulbs. Just about everything.

That practice really makes me sick.

But, YES, you can buy by the LOGO, when you know who's behind the product.

Vetchking and Company are way behind...... LOL

Agree with everyone who has said so far that Ampeg "defined the sound". But, I don't play the type of music that I would enjoy playing through Ampeg.

I also agree that the vintage models tend to have better performance, anyone know who well this correlates with Ampeg moving production offshore to China. I believe they used to have production here on the East Coast, I think even right here in Dirty Jersey.

Can't speak for Ampeg in general. I own the SVT II Pro and the SVT810e "fridge" cab. I absolutely LOVE the sound I get out of my rig. Playing either my Fender Jazz V or EBMMSR5 and as for tone, punch, warmth, grit, volume - that rig brings it in spades!

I play primarily music that is based on classic/prog rock (with that rig) and I feel like it gives me everything I need to fulfill the bass sounds that type of music calls for.

I would imagine that for more 'clean' or 'crisp' styles, my rig may be too much. Being all tube and HUGE, it's nature is to be gritty and growly, so ultra-clean stuff may get pushed around a but too much by it.

I don't know about new Ampeg nor do I have any experience with any other models that would be comparable to my setup - so I don't know how or why one would choose what I use over any other brand. What I do know is that for me, my Ampeg setup is exactly what I need.

So - when you gonna let these guys know exactly WHOM you are!?!?!?

It's a shame to keep the suspense. Oh, BTW....any info on a release date yet???? I've been saving my pennies!!:D

So how many know where the "Ampeg" name came from?
I still have a vintage Magnavox era Ampeg V4-B and isn't that sad? We define the sound or any other quality of the name Ampeg to whoever was building "a amp" at any given time?
I was insulted enough when an amp called a classic re-isuue with "original circuitry" was produced with redesigned circuits. When SVT was tagged to any amp you wanted to sell, IMO I lost any respect for the name Ampeg. Ampeg and SVT BECAME Logos, IMHO by MTI, SLM and LOUD. The mistique died long ago :crying:

Actually, I'm not trying to hide Who I am.

I posted a few weeks ago and Said I am Blah Blah Blah.

It was a post on studio recording. I felt I made a nice post and gave good information on the topic.

An administrator Deleted it and sent me a TB E-mail.

I don't have the time to stop and find out how to list myself.

So, I post, here and there and Don't try to sell anything.

What's funny here is......... on TB. Patrick is a GC executive and I'm Vetchking.

On the acoustic site...... I'm an execuitive and Patrick is a bass guy.

LOL.............. Don't ya love it.

I have ... however, heard a bass amp that is amazing.

Someone here posted he likes his amp cause it let's him play his kind of (style) music.

***NOTE***

Your amp should be capable of playing all types of music. Rock, Funk, Blues, Country, Rege, Blue Grass, Classical, etc. and it should be such a musical amp it in itself is an Instrument.....

WOW.......... now there's a concept and goal.

Is far as a release date........ Here, goes....... 3 months.

And as far as saving those pennies,,,,,,,,,,,,, ya might want to move up to dimes and quarters...... the new numbers are brisk.

We have died to keep them down....... But, Greatness is not cheap. We really can't work any harder....... Hell I'm a few weeks from a hospital stay....... I got to cool it.

Have a great one........ Later

Oh, E-mail me and get on the list...

Ampeg=Amplfier Peg, they made a "pickup" for accoustics that was a peg....

SVT=Super Vacuumm Tube. The story goes that I believe it was the Stones coming to America for a tour and asked for the biggest Tube Bass Amps they could get. Ampeg engineers were working on a 300W and brought it to the Stones. Legend has it that it took a team of engineers to baby sit the amps so they wouldn't over heat, thus the SVT was born. The first 300W all tube amp. I believe this was around 1970 or there abouts. I love my SVT-CL and Frig (8X10) and its lucky that I'm an electronics engineer, so I can keep it running. The newer ones (last few years) don't stack up and now they are no longer made in the USA, I'm actually exploring somethin' else...Mesa, Hartke....don't know yet

I intend to purchase one for purely selfish reasons. I have kicked myself in the butt more times than I can recall for getting rid of mine "way back when". I will NOT make the same mistake twice!

Price prohibitive? Most likely for the younger players. I, however, do not fall into that category. Cripes man! When I bought my bike (Harley fat boy) I finally came to the realization that it's mainly the "old farts" that can actually afford some of the "finer" things in life~! I guess it's true, we're not good for anything else, so might as well enjoy the "fruits of our labor"!~

When I heard what you guys planned, I literally jumped for joy! Mainly because I WAS bummed about Ampeg. Look - there is a giant proliferation of builders out there - many more so than when I first began playing...but none hold the "mystique" of Big Blue.

Count me in!

This is not a thread about Acoustic amps and their delivery dates and such. Please keep the talk on how things relate to Ampeg amps and the corporation that makes them.

In other words, how Acoustic (or any brand) relates to Ampeg through history, technical specs, tone, users, etc. are, and have been, open for discussion. I apologize to anyone who thought I meant the comparisions and relationship between Acoustic and Ampeg amps was completely off limits in this thread.
