Soccer Tragedy

I have a hard time attributing these actions to the sport being played. . . . But it does seem to be the case that soccer fans, along with players and apparently refs, are far worse than any others I can think of. Why is that? Soccer is usually the "fun, less competitive, positive sport" of choice among suburban American mothers.

Football/Soccer is the most played sport on the planet, more people doing it = more instances of crazy.

Less competitive in the US maybe, where it's seen as a second class sport. Throughout Europe and South America, even Africa and Asia, it's the primary sport and certainly not a less competitive variety!

Yeah, im questioning the legitimacy of this story
You don't just "behead" someone with a couple of stones and stakes - you need some heavy duty equipment to behead someone. Hell, even the guillotine often times failed to behead someone in one try and it took multiple chops to get a clean cut.

Andres Escobar was shot several times after his own goal for Colombia in the '94 World Cup against USA was alleged to have cost several drug cartels a lot of money.

Little known fact: Operacion Puerto was when a "few" cyclists were busted. Most of the people involved were actually soccer players and absolutely NOTHING happened to them. Recently, a judge ordered destruction of all blood doping evidence that was remaining. Perhaps this is why.

This was extremely upsetting to us as my grandson was invited to play in Spain and Portugal. They arrived home today safely . He was in the U13 division. One of the comments he made was the other team they had played, some of the players were crying after their win because they only won by 2 points. They were really upset. Didn't really like Americans and thought they were so much better. Scary!!!!! These are 12 and 13 yo kids.
