Soldering help - never seen an input jack like this

I have the same one in my pb5 been a pain since I owned it
heres a wiring page from keisel

the switch disconnects the power to the preamp when cord is unplugged like michedelic said
theres really no easy way around this jack without a preamp change

it's a switchcraft jack style 13..... I have a couple in the spare bin box.... u can get them from amplified parts.

You should be able to clean the original jack with alcohol or Deoxit and a cotton swab, then use a needle-nose pliers to bend the contacts a bit for a tight connection. Unless the jack is loose-fitting after doing that, you should be good to go. Deoxit is good for cleaning dirty volume and tone controls (pots, or potentiometers).
 
I had to replace a Jack in an older Carvin fretless 5 I owned. I just went thru Carvin at the time. Competitive prices, good service. Then. Kiesel is prolly just as good.

I also had issue with high end cables having slightly larger diameter ends. After a time using these cables, then goin back to my original, less boutique style, I had jack issues on several basses. I just use semi inexpensive cables, now. For that reason. Lifetime warranties are handy. But lesser cables have em, too. And, for me, jacks last longer. And cables are far easier to fix than output jacks. Heh.
 
Both jacks are putting out mono, the difference between the two is the way they connect the active circuitry. On a stereo jack, the two grounds (circuitry ground and regular ground) are connected by plugging in a mono jack. The mono plug shorts the sleeve and the ring together to complete the circuit for the active system. On the original jack the OP has there, the connection is made on the jack itself instead of shorting the jack with the plug. When the plug goes into the original jack, it pushes the tabs together and sends both grounds to ground through one point instead of two points. They are both just different ways of achieving the same goal: sending a mono signal out while completing a circuit using the plug as a switch.

That's one way of connecting it, but it's redundant and really doesn't offer any better switching compared to just using a TRS jack in the conventional manner. Having the isolated contacts allows for purposes of switching potentials other than ground.

It is NOT NECESSARY to replace it! The only time an output jack of this type fails is when a terminal physically breaks. It gets noisy because it has been used so much that the contacts are not tight any longer. All you need to do is to take your long nose pliers (or a screwdriver) and carefully bend the contact that touch your plug outwards a little bit - open them a tiny amount to tighten the grip. Then put a plug in and out a few times to clean the parts that touch. Some contact cleaner spray would make it even easier.
 
Swapped.

An hour of drinking coffee and staring at wiring diagrams, five minutes to swap out the jacks with my original assumption, ten minutes to clean up.

The old jack could have probably been cleaned up, but at 25-plus years of service it deserved to retire. I don’t gig this bass anymore so it was nice to practice a skill with little consequence for failure.

I have seen instances where these type of jacks (and others, too) have had the contacts bent out of shape to where they don't work properly. Generally, if they are kept clean and left alone, they function fine.
