It certainly does look like one now that you mention it. They said the mask is "bass shaped to give me an idea of how it'll look on my bass".

A few months ago, I had to tighten the input jack on my Mark II, and when I did, I noticed the capacitor to the DI broke, so I replaced that, as well, with some help from you fine folks. Now, since then, I've had my battery go dead pretty quick, about a week or so (not playing, not plugged in). I opened it up and didn't see anything touching... what contacts do I want to check with a multimeter to see if something's leaving the circuit on? Or could this be something unrelated? I'm guessing it is, because I never had the problem until I had to fix the bass. Thanks in advance.

orange and red should only connected with a jack in....if its connected without a jack...that could be your problem.
Okay, I just touched each with a multimeter and they are connected, yet, looking closely, I can't see them touching. Did this likely have something to do with when I tightened the jack in? Should I replace the jack, and if so, what kind do I need to get? What should I do, next? Thanks.
two things..... first unplug the harness from the preamp board and check again from the plug if red and orange is connected. double check that the 'arm and bar' that connects when the jack is aren't touching unless the jack is in.... if not make sure the tabs where the orange and red wires are touching aren't touching and have a clean solder (no solder connecting the two tabs)
That was it! Maybe when I was turning it, it got smushed up against the connector. I went and pushed the bar back a bit more so, now, no connection with orange and red when not plugged in. Thanks, so much.
Curious, is this 4 conductor 1/4 inch jack a proprietary Wal invention? Just looking around quickly, I haven't been able to find them, anywhere, and would just love to have one to keep in my repair kit. Any sources?

it's a switchcraft jack style 13..... I have a couple in the spare bin box.... u can get them from amplified parts.

Wal seems to make the housing which seems to be a modified Neutrick housing.... I actually just got one of these
Would I need a new housing to go with it if I were to replace the jack someday, or does it come off of the jack threads, fairly easily? Thanks!
no comes out fairly easy....just unscrew basically holding the jack from inside the body and twirling the housing.. I'd recommend dressing the jack too with heat wrap (shrink tubing) too if u do end up getting a replacement jack.

Maybe there's hope yet for maple boards... apparently this is W251203.
Wonder if that was a product of bad wood, bad workmanship (not bloody likely), bad environment, or bad maintenance...
