solid state or tube?

I play through a SVT-CL and 810E, best decision i ever made paring the two up, it feals like your being hit with a sledge hammer which is wut i was going for and i heve definatly achieved that, plus the tones not to bad either haha, all tube allways

Just tubes baby! Don't believe the hybrid hype. There're just SS amps in disguise. Machines will break and you just have to roll the dice, but if you find a good amp tech, tube amps are rock solid.

I love my D-180, but my tastes change now & then.

And when that happens I just dial in another tone on my D-180. I've got a Skunkworks SVT too, but the 180 is the many-toned monster. If you can't take the weight, go back to guitar.

In my subjective 40 year bass playing experience, SS amps run the gamit from having one tone to having none. And the hybrids have a solid one tone.

A lot of them have a good tone, and you can add your various pedals to try and trick the ears, but it's kind of like an aural vascectomy.

Psshh, the D-180 doesn't even weigh very much at all for a tube amp.

But yeah, it is a many toned amp. Lately I've been using a sound from mine that's very... bulldozer like I guess. Lows cut, mids all the way up (which isn't saying much, considering it's a Fender tone stack), treble boosted a little. And then mids boosted in the graphic EQ all the way, master and volume 2 knobs set for grind.

Sounds great with a clean tone as well, though. I like being able to have both.

Virtual pre-amps seem to irk people off around here. Although they're fine with virtual water coolers.

We find a way to make it happen Plenty of bassists kick ass on a solid state rig, but if it's your dream to have a tube amp, you can find a way. I have confidence in you, Mr. SF...you can make it happen and make yourself as broke as me in the process

They don't bother me in the least. The only thing that bothers me about them is that your computer has to be really kickass for it to work live, and for the money a computer and software costs, you're better off using a standalone.

Then you do what I did. Sell the SS amp and buy the tube amp. You should at least try some tube amps, first, though, as they're not for everyone.
