Some guy was recording our gig Saturday night.

I take video at nearly every concert I attend. Mostly I video the bassists and try to get closeups because I study their techniques as a way to learn.

If I can make contact with them in advance of the set, I ask permission and tell them why I would like to tape, then offer them a copy of the video. I always ask if I can post.

If I can't make contact in advance, I try to catch them on break or after the show to offer a copy of the video and ask permission to post. If they say no on the posting, then I don't post. Simple as that.

Some people want their video, some don't. I've never had a situation where the band got snarky about the video being taken. Posting is about 50/50, but they've always been nice about it. Some bands just prefer to control their own video posts, and I can't blame them for that. Probably the most sensitive video I've taken was at a gig where the bassist was murdered during the first break of the show. My footage was used as his funeral, the wake, and the fundraiser to cover the hospital and funeral bills.

Aw geeze!

Nice timing though. I bet his loved ones were happy to have his final performance captured.

I bring my Zoom handheld audio and/or video recorders to pretty much every show I ever go to. From International acts playing arenas, to the local cover band playing at a local dive. It really doesn't matter to me. I record them all anyway. Digital storage is cheap, and each performance is always unique. It's nice to have a record of whoever I see. :)

I actually did think of that, but this bar has been around for a couple years and has live music almost every weekend. I assune they pay up to the necessary groups or they already would have been called out on it.

Again, he was only recording audio. I don't get why he'd want to record some random band covering Brown Eyed Girl for the millionth time, but whatever.

You know what happens when you assune? ;) kidding aside, that's probably what it was - it takes a while for that stuff to trickle down. . .

regardless, I think the venue is responsible for the rules of recording etc. I was in a club once and was taking pics of a friends band and was asked to stop - no pics. Really? I kept shooting anyway :eyebrow::D

other than a rival band stealing your arrangements/set list I can't imagine any other harm that could come of it . . .
