Some new GK 700 RBII love.

I have been a GK fan for a long time along with Eden and SWR cabs. I have had the 700RB and 1001 RB 210 combos and they were OK. I loved my old 800 and 400 RB's but never quite fell in love with the 1001 I had a few years back. Well I just got my first 700 RBII head yesterday and the love has returned. I plugged it into my SWR Goliath set it basicall flat and grabbed my Jazz Bass....there it was. My tone! The sound that I have loved for 20 years. Solid clear lows with the warmth of the SWR cab added and the mid range growl (just a touch) and the tight snap of the high end. Just a great sounding head. I think I will look for a few more of these babies.

I've been playing through an old ('86 manufacture) 400RB for more years than I care to relate, but about 6 weeks ago I bought a 700RB-II from a TB'er and the difference is remarkable. There's more articulation throughout the range and the lows are deeper and the highs are more distinguishable. One of the best buys I've made. I'm playing my original '66 Jazz through it with a Hartke XL 410 moving the air. Love it!

I've owned a 700rb-II for a few years now, and consider it to be one of the best bass amps ever made... I used to have a pair of them, but traded one in towards a Mesa BB750 - which I ended up trading in towards a new M-pulse 600... Although the M-pulse 600 is my main gigging amp, I'm still keeping the 700rb-II, as it can hold it's own against any amp...

I just purchased a 700RB-II as well, got to play through it for the first time last night, and it definitely impressed. I've been an Ampeg SVT II guy for a decade and it was nice to play with a different coloration.

Loved the extended lows and crisp highs that my Ampeg doesn't do nearly as cleanly. My mids felt a touch scooped even with the contour all the way down, but that could be my ears playing tricks on me because of the wider frequency response I was getting -- I'm used to having tone that's all about focused mids.

Got a ton of compliments from the band, but the best part for me was that it made my jazz bass sound good again for the first time in ages, had practically written it off because of the tone my Warwick was delivering, but the amp dialed in the lows that the jazz had been lacking.

Oh, and I know I did a ton of searches asking whether the 700RB would be loud enough or if the 1000RB was a better choice -- the 700RB is plenty loud. I absolutely made the right call, at least as of my current honeymoon phase.

In addition to the 700RB I also recently picked up a new GK MB210. The MB is a decent sounding amp and the it will get the call when ever weight is a factor like on upright gigs, but there is something about the 700 RB into the heavier cabs. It just has a fuller richer tone.

This thread has got me interested in pulling out my RB700 II out of moth balls for my next gig. Quick question. I always forget about the pre/post button, and 5/4 button. When the pre/post button is pushed in, is that the pre single to the board, and when the 5/4 button is pushed in, is that the "5 " option ?

In is "Post" and "5" - you can easily tell by looking at the panel front, if you're ever in doubt...
