Some random observations from here on the earth

Here's one I just thought of:

Earbuds are being replaced with "real" headphones.
Circle 'o life, man.

My random thought and observation is that having just spent 7 days in the southeast US (TN, NC, VA, WV), I have concluded the midwest is more tatted up than the southeast, which I never would have guessed. Asheville, NC might be the only observable exception to that statement.

In Texas we are seeing refugees from the blue states where there is no work coming in in droves. Construction crews are busy building houses for them.
They are busy trying to change Texas government into the type of government they had back home, not realizing that is why they are now it Texas. Crews are also busy building them bike lanes, but it doesn't help. They still ride 4 across in the main streets. Hopefully they will figure out pickups and horses are Texas style transportation. Well, the ocassional Harley, too.
It is starting to cool off. Been over a month since it was 100° and amost a week since it hit 90°. Drought is still on. It is nice weather for going the the gun range.
It is the season where we are changing our Stetsons from straw to beaver.
It could be worse...

If you like consistency, come to Alabama. About the only thing that changes is the date.

We did have an armed robber waylay 4 folks in a parking garage last week and make them all strip and the girls perform oral sex on the boys before taking off with their stuff, but that's about it.

Well, more socialist than democrat. The only part of Texas that is blue is Travis county (Austin area). That is because of all the Californians who came to Austin because there are no jobs in California.
Plenty of jobs here in San Francisco and our politics are "somewhere to the left of whoopee.*"
I hear what you are saying Dav but we should be careful with politics here. It can set people off and get the thread locked in a hurry. There is a good reason for that rule here.

I understand, Slobake. Sorry if a statement of fact is viewed as politcal.

San Diego report......

It's not raining
Ebola talk is spreading around the Keurig machine
High waist pants and midriff shirts are the female teen uniform
Fat kids are still in fashion denial and wearing "skinny" pants. Male stretch marked muffin tops...blech
Old guys can still wear flip flops (thank god)
Texting while driving is rampant...even riding motorcycles
Cupcake only stores are losing ground
Local brewers are trying to out-hop each other....IPA's are now weed killer
Our mayor and chief of police are actually well respected for the most part
The Fat Boys broke up
It's still not raining, those few drops were just lost

This makes me sad.

Kids of younger age (15-16) are trying to get alcohol from me at parties their parents bring them to.

Kids are starting to smoke, or vape, at younger ages. A 15 y/o was bugging me recently to let him try my vape because his parents took his.

Hipsters are still on the rise, but not quite as quickly or ironically as years past.

The rain is coming back to the Pacific NW.

Diesel trucks and their occupants continue to get more and more obnoxious.

Idiocracy is rampant.

I'm seeing a lot of fat older guys riding around on expensive bikes with aerodynamic, neon colored helmets. Usually going slower than me on my $20 junker SS with a hat instead of a brain bucket.

Parents aren't putting their kids in beat up old POS cars anymore when they turn 16. Theres a lot of really nice cars parked at the High School.

Squier is every bit as good as Fender. Unless you own an American Fender. Then everything else is crap.

I'm convinced that more old people are joining Facebook than young people now.

More teenage boys need to go buck hay during the summer. They'll quickly realize why men don't wear their pants around their knees.

As I proceed through my sixth decade on this mud ball I have noticed that angry young men turn into bitter old farts. Cries of don't trust anyone over thirty have changed to rants about how those young punks ought to ...
The SF Giants are once again doing what everyone says they can't. Last night they won with a walk off bunt.
Most people are friendly if you take the time to get to know them.

The beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding
A rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da

Charleston was once the rage, uh huh
History has turned the page, uh huh
The mini skirts the current thing, uh huh
Teenybopper is our newborn king, uh huh

The grocery store's the super mart, uh huh
Little girls still break their hearts, uh huh
And men still keep on marching off to war
Electrically they keep a baseball score

Grandmas sit in chairs and reminisce
Boys keep chasing girls to get a kiss
The cars keep going faster all the time
Bums still cry, "Hey buddy,
have you got a dime?"

The beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding
A rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da

"Now the rainman gave me two cures
Then he said, "Jump right in"
The one was Texas medicine
The other was just railroad gin
And like a fool I mixed them
And it strangled up my mind
And now, people just get uglier
And I have no sense of time
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again."

Here we have faster traffic, dumber people, worse music, higher prices, lower wages and worse food. Quality is decreasing, quantity is increasing. The divorce rate is rising, the belief in happily-ever-after is rapidly fading and gun and alcohol sales are way up, as are heroin overdoses and suicide rates.
I reckon that's the long and short of it.
