maybe so many people have called him and grilled him about how he got it so cheap at this "garage sale" that he's just tired of explaining himself... ya know? just kidding.
very fishy. anyone with the internet can simply search "ampeg SVT" in google and get a good idea of what these go for.
it's kind of obvious that he wants it gone FAST. plus if he paid nothing for it (stolen), $500 is nice, especially considering to him it's probably no more than a wooden box with wires and bottles in it.

I REALLY though about not opening this thread........now that I did I won't be eating lunch today. Az to Tn? How long of a drive is that......hmmmm. DAMN!

the only times deals like this "really/truly" happen in Nashville is when a starving artist/musician is unloading to pay rent or eat cause they didn't break into the scene right away like the "knew they were going to". Unfortunately, in Nashville, most everyone knows what their gear is worth and then try to get 10-20% on top of that. It's like finding hen's teeth if you get a "great/smoking/slamming deal" here in town. Most everyone I know that has acquired some sort of ridiculously cool gear at a silly low price has occured out on the road in some po-dunk town that the person selling it had no clue what they had. (IE...a guy I know bagged a '66 Jazz all original in primo condition from a little church in the middle of nowhere for something around $2000. Got it appraised at Gruhns when he got back for $12,000)
Very admirable of you, my friend. Its not easy to pass on something that can easily make you $1000. Besides, most of the people around would care less if it was stolen.

I was just thinking as I looked through Nashville's other CL postings for gear, there's actually A LOT of good deals on there...and then I thought, Duhhhh, one of the music capitals of the world...makes sense.
About this item. Even if its on the up and up, $500 is too much for me for any old item. Recently on Ebay, I found an ampeg B-18 which they wanted $800 as opening bid. All money is new and not used, so why should anybody buy an over-priced ancient amp, even if its in great shape? Your item is old, might be on the up and up( however the person that suspects that it might be hot, could be right) , so good luck .. . Anything from Craigs list, I go El Paso!!!! Finally in regards to Ebay, I bought an Ampeg SVt-400T for $349 + 50 shipping. I just had it checked out at the local Samash Store. The Tech person said that nothing was wrong with it (he used it to crank up another cab he was working on) only that it is kind of dirty and it should be overhauled in the future. For now its ok. I'm lucky. I'm not an old antique amp collecter. Some people are, amps esp. bass amps are made to be played and not looked at..I apoligize for being so wordy but this topic is important to all.

FYI (just in case you didn't know) an SVT-400 is NOT AT ALL the same as the SVT in the CL ad.
I had a 71 rick get stolen, luckily the person posted it up on CL the next morning.

I called the gent up who posted the add (I did not let him know that I was the owner)
We agreed to meet at a rest stop across the TN / KY line.
He saw me, dropped the case & ran to his truck.
In short - I never want to a person go through getting gear stolen. I was VERY lucky.
Not stolen or even an amp but I dated a girl for a while and when her parents moved they found an "old guitar" in the attic. She called me to tell me they just threw it in the trash ha. I got over there and it was early 60's Silvertone guitar w/original case and amp, it looked brand new. Got quite alot of new gear off that one.
About 15 years ago GC in Towson Md. took in trade a first year SVT with the weird connector box, covers and two cabs.
They were selling the set for $1000.
I didn't want it. Yes some of us already did that in a past life.
Called my buddy he borrowed a pickup bought the whole thing. He cleaned up the head sold the cabs. It hadn't been gigged just sat in someones house as a practice amp.
He thanked me profusely!

if you wanna front the $500...I'll happily go pick it up and do just that. However, I personally don't have an extra $500 to buy somebody else's amp back for them.
If it is stolen, hopefully the person it got jacked from will see the ad and get it back or had their gear fully insured and are covered on the loss.
