Something I've noticed about this forum:..

There is no such thing as the 'right' way to play bass. And the only reason that righties get the upper hand in music is the historical bias towards right-handed people.

Hell, in medieval times being left-handed was enough to get you a charge of witchcraft and the death penalty.

So your point is that we should burn you at the stake?

There is no such thing as the 'right' way to play bass.

Also, there's a couple of hundred lefty TBers...you know, the people who play bass the right way round.

:eyebrow:

There's one advantage to being a lefty: it's hilarious watching a righty pick up a LH bass and try and play it. Stops people mucking around with your gear if nothing else. :D

Well, sure. Does the same happen to you when you pick up a right handed bass? Or are you ambidextrous atop your many other talents? I find it funny that a lot of people who are naturally left handed, when they begin to play a guitar or bass, often find right handed instruments more comfortable and easier to play. :p

I'm ambidetrous, yeah. So I can, if I have to, play a RH bass. And my actual bass IS a RH bass, but the straplocks are on the other side (or will be when I switch them over), so I do a Hendrix and play flipped.

You're absolutely right. I've read posts here and elsewhere stating how such-and-such forum is really lousy, not just in form but in content as well. We're actually very fortunate here at TB to have such an intelligent and literate membership.

A person can be literate in any language, what you are really speaking to is the maturity of the forum, not their literacy skills.

Pretty please with Geddy Lee AND Alex Lifeson on top.

That visual just made it worse. Please stop.

By "historical bias", do you mean that violins, violas, cellos, and double-basses (along with pretty much every other stringed instrument) have only been made in one direction for centuries? I know a few players of these instruments that are left-handed and play just fine. Historically-speaking, left-handed instruments are a very new thing. A guitard I used to play with is left-handed and plays a right-handed guitar. He feels that the improved dexterity of his left hand (compared with his right) is a benefit to his playing. Based on his skills, and the fact that there's some logic to it, I'm not going to debate his theory (too bad he's a jackhole).

When we first pick up a stringed instrument, it's ALL foreign. The movements and coordination needs to be learned. I submit that you could have learned just as easily the right way as the wrong way.

Holy balls! Fassa has totally derailed what was originally a great thread, and made it about her left-handed agenda! :scowl:

:D Rush rock. Then again, they're fronted by a bassist.

Again, historical bias and the fact that lefty-ness was always seen as something to be rid of.

Again, I can play the bass either way and yeah, you CAN as a lefty learn to play righty. But it's damn annoying when your hands are doing one thing and your brain is telling you to do precisely the opposite. So :spit:!

'Right' way and 'wrong' way?! Seriously, there is no such thing, only a bias towards one particular instrument positioning or way of playing.

Holy balls! Fassa has totally derailed what was originally a great thread, and made it about her left-handed agenda! :scowl:

Nothing to with a lefty agenda (although if it were my choice, there'd be no such thing as a RH bass). YOU started the silly debate about lefties. I, as a PROUD lefty, am merely defending myself. So :spit::spit:

No Fassa, you did start in with your left handed agenda when you stated this: "Can someone do me the favor of turning the emote the other way round so he's playing the right way round (lefty)."

And, here again, you claim "'Right' way and 'wrong' way?! Seriously, there is no such thing, only a bias towards one particular instrument positioning or way of playing."

Though earlier you clearly stated: " the people who play bass the right way round" clearly stating your bias.
You show it again when you state: "(although if it were my choice, there'd be no such thing as a RH bass)"

Why? So that only 0.29% of this board could enjoy the activity?

Knock it off already.
