Phew! As per TB rules, if there's no pic, it didn't happen. Congrats on not breaking that string.
 
Had that happen on an E string many, many years ago. It was a really old string. I think this can happen if the strings are defective, too. Even if they aren't old. Bummer.
That’s what I was thinking. That it might have been defective. I changed my strings 3 months ago.
I do play really hard though. I play up and down strokes alternating between my index and middle fingers as well. My action is fairly high so I can dig in and get the sound I want.

Yep, when it happened to me I was playing with really high action and beating the holy heck out of my bass.
