Yes, you guessed it! It's newly disgraced Invalid Link Removed John Galliano. Wow, Invalid Link Removed, Invalid Link Removed, and [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] all in one day!

International Herald Tribune fashion journalist Suzy Menkes wrote that "unnamed friends of Galliano 'say that they have finally persuaded the troubled designer to go immediately into rehab,' and added that that 'the pace of fashion today' and the 'rigorous structure of a corporate fashion house, broke the fragile, artistic creator.'" Well, that basically explains his intense love of Hitler. Oh wait… it doesn't.

Is there rehab for anti-Semites? Better send Mel Gibson while you're at it

Newly disgraced Jew-hating fashion burnout John Galliano

all the vileness about this character aside, is it true that what he said is actually -against the law- in france? i heard that somewhere, and i was a little surprised.

any of our french brothers want to chime in?

I know that the article mentioned punitive measures being taken by the Dior label as "Dior has a zero-tolerance policy toward anti-semetic behaviour".

I know that it's illegal in Germany to publically display or take part in any pro-Nazi/fascistic symbols & behaviour. Not sure about France...

what? the crap?

What I'm getting at is nazism didn't go away at the end of the war....far from it. It's not hard for me to believe clowns like creepy fashion boy here exist.

Canada we have "Anti-hate" laws that have shut up a number of people. While I find some of their views detestable I have to support their right to voice those views. Am I the only one who sees irony in fascist style censorship laws stopping people talking about fascism?

Google "Canada anti-hate law" and take yer pick.
While you're at it search "Hungary censorship law" if you want to see where this kind of thinking goes.

Main article: Hate speech laws in Canada

In Canada, advocating genocide or inciting hatred[10] against any 'identifiable group' is an indictable offence under the Criminal Code of Canada with maximum prison terms of two to fourteen years. An 'identifiable group' is defined as 'any section of the public distinguished by colour, race, religion, ethnic origin or sexual orientation.' It makes exceptions for cases of statements of truth, and subjects of public debate and religious doctrine. The landmark judicial decision on the constitutionality of this law was R. v. Keegstra (1990)

I've lived in Canada all my life and not once have I ever felt that my free speech was imperilled by the State.

Nor have I personally. It's a matter of principle though....when you allow censorship of any kind you leave the door wide open to its abuse. We humans need to grow up and that will never happen as long as we aren't free to make mistakes. Censorship inhibits your choice to make a mistake and thus to grow past making those mistakes.

In my 54 years I've managed to make plenty of mistakes (and even learn from a few of them too) without feeling a need to engage in "advocating genocide or inciting hatred against any 'identifiable group'".

You're ignoring that when you have laws that curtail freedom of speech based on certain parameters you leave the door open to the definition of those parameters becoming incrementally ever broader. You keep saying "I" don't this or that.....stop thinking "I" and start thinking "we".
