Songs derived from other songs.....

Harry Partch was an awesome and truly original composer, one of the most original (non-derivative) of all time in fact. He made all his own instruments, but they extended far beyond percussion. There are some great videos of his work on youtube - it's definitely not going to be everyone cup of tea, but I think his stuff is great. A fine counterexample to people who think there are limits to what can be achieved with chord progressions, etc, and that music must be derivative because of this perceived limitation.
