Songs for my final exam!

Hello, my name is Miguel and I'm French/Spanish. At the end of this year I have to make a music final exam. But I don´t know what to play. This exam have to parts, the first one consists in playing in front of a jury. I have no problem in this one , I will play a Jaco song or a Wooten one.
But in the second part of the exam I have to play in front of the public, and I have to play a song that normal people will enjoy (it´s hard for the bass haha).
My question is, ¨Which song is cool for the bass and enjoyable/cool for the public?)

Thanks, Miguel

Maybe a little medley/mix of famous bass-lines?

Queen's Another One Bites The Dust,
Fleetwood Mac's The Chain,
Pink Floyd's Money,
Beatles Come Together,
Talking Heads Psychokiller

You get the idea...probably you'd prefer some more modern stuff, or heavier, but I'm old so that's what I know...:)

Best of luck!
Haha, good songs, but maybe in need something more active to show some skills haha. Thanks anyway! If you have more songs I will read them with pleasure!

For easy-listening general appeal, maybe something like:

(bassline starts around the 60 seconds mark)

Damn, this song is awesome, maybe without the lyrics is a good idea! Have you played it? I'm afraid it won't sound the same without a fretless.

I think if you learn Yes’ “Roundabout”, you’ll be in the right area to compliment the other piece. Also "YYZ". I'd look through Ye Olde Prog Rock's Greatest Hits.

Haha, I thought about theses, maybe YYZ will be an option, if you have more sugestions I'm here.

I haven't played it, no (not really my flavour) but I'm now thinking I should try it just for the practice.
It may be that the absense of a fretless won't compromise your performance too much. Give it a try. I think that bassline (or similar) would provide you with the scope to present your skills, though.

I agree, anyway , if you have another proposition let me know it!

You don't have to play bass "bass song". Listen to Ron Carter solo. He sounds like a great musician, and his lines would work for any instrument. Listen to Bill Evans solo on piano - he obviously studied lots of horn players. Do you have to play solo, or do you have a piano or other accompanist?

I know, in the first part of the exam (the jury one) I'll maybe play Donna Lee, which as I know is from Miles Davis and certainly not for bass. I wrote ¨bass song¨ meaning a song that I can play with my bass.( sorry if it wasn't clear haha).

Asking to your question, I can take more musicians with me for the song.
The instruments that my friends play are:
(pianox2(all styles) ;
drumsx2(jazz and rock with double pedal);
guitarx3 (no jazz but we can arrange that);
another bass (if you have a crazy idea);
Trumpet
Horn
Tuba

My gear is:
-Marcus Miller v7
-Ibanez gsr200 maybe Fretless
-sub n up octaver pedal
-aftershock bass pedal (fuzz with a lot of options)
- Y box from fender
-Loop pedal from boss (the third versionIi think)

Thanks for your propositions

One of the greatest skills for any bassplayer is knowing when to keep it simple and solid.
Just a thought...:)
Haha I know! But I have to impress also!

Use the looper!

*** he's doing with his bass!!

Maybe one solo bass piece

Maybe an arragngement, it's not a bad idea ;)

This guy Zander Zon has heaps of bass solos on his YouTube page.

I think I will never be able to do a Zander Zon arrangement haha, he have mad gear!
