Kinda like the Wayne's World movie - if I remember correctly, there's a scene in a music store where 'Wayne' finds himself in violation of a sign that read 'no Stairway to Heaven' or somesuch.![]()

You should ask our local rock stations that question, since they beat those songs to death all day every day.
Actually, we do this and it GOES OVER VERY WELL!!! We call it our "sing-a-long" because everybody sings it with us!Originally posted by StupidMatt

Exactly, and imo Bohemian Rhapsody is a good example of that. That song may get beaten to death by classic rock stations, but Ive never heard a band pull that one off without the vocals sounding like a train wreck.

Whats wrong with Skynyrd???
I really like Skynyrd, and I think a lot of musicians are closet Skynyrd fans. They brought rock, country, blues and r&b together in a unique way. I consider them to be unwitting innovators. I just don't need to hear Freebird, Sweet Home Alabama or Gimme Three Steps EVER again. The reasons, I think, that Skynyrd is the brunt of all this are:
1) It represents, in a convoluted way, the narrow-mindedness and the lack of respect and understanding that musicians get from the general public. Let's face it, playing covers is a necessary evil. IF most local bands could get recognition and make good money by playing originals, there wouldn't be much need for cover bands, and to have these mullet-headed genetic miscreants (and frat boys, too) yelling "SKYNYRD" just adds salt to the wound.
2) Those 3 songs have just been butchered and hacked sooooo many times that we just really don't need to play them again, OK?
Thus we have the Skynyrd antipathy so prevalent among us musicians.
YMMV

If you ever want to know wny punk rock happened, Lynyrd Skynyrd is one good reason why.
I swear to god, never before has one plane crash made any band so overrated as it did Lynyrd Skynyrd.
