That's OK, when we play them, the drummer and I funk them up a little. Makes it a little more tolerable.:D

Actually i dont really think there are any you shouldnt cover, as a rule...

there's many i personally wouldnt do as a rule, but that's different... achy breaky heart being pretty close to the top of the list right now :D

beatles is the biggest mine-field i can thnk cause somehow they never quite sound as good as the origainl no matter how simple the song.. maybe cause everyone knows every beatles song.. more or less

i reckon Public Enemy tracks might be certain death on stage... speshly for a skinny white english chap like mice elf...

I plead the 5th as to my personal track record of whether or not I have violated this law. Well, actually, I plead the 5th twice. <cringe> But it was the only thing everyone knew!

Seriously though, if I hear another gawdawful cover of that song, I'm going to puke.

It's cheesier than anything you could imagine! It's "Achy Breaky Dance" and the rest of the lyrics don't have anything to do with the original version. There's also the ultra-cheesy dance that goes with it. The guy who did this is the ultra-ultra-ultra cheesy Stef Carse. That's the only hit he ever had! Thank goodness!

I'm referring to covers to play on a gig.

"Dust in the Wind" is too sad. It brings a crowd down from my experience. Unless you are playing a funeral where it's ok for people to be somber, then avoid.

"St. James Infirmary" is just a lame one on bass. I'd rather play Beer Barrel Polka than this one.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" - if you can't pull the harmonies off on this one, just leave it alone. No-wants to hear a bunch of guys demolish a great song by singing off key. You'll lose the crowd, before you even get to the cool jam part. Same goes for any song with a four part harmony (Mamas & Papas, some Beach Boys, Queen, you get the point) If you don't have the guys to pull it off, then leave it alone.

I think it really depends on the crowd not the band. Our band will cover teen spirit and we are way above that. I absolutely despise playing it because it is just such a garage out of middle school just got my combo amp from my christmas money band song. But after all of that, the crowd loves it. Just loves it. Do you know what I'm saying?

I would love to cover free bird, back in black, and Iron man.
