Songs That Make You Cringe

Wow - a thread where I pretty much agree 100% with all the posts. :D

For me, anything with a tone-deaf or whiny vocalist makes me stab the mute or station change button. Sadly, that's an increasing number of artists.

I no longer gig and haven't for a long time, but when I did, there were some songs that were crowd favorites (and radio hits) but were just plain awful, and made you feel silly to play/sing. Remember, I'm going back to the 70's, but lets face it, bad is bad regardless of the decade. My most cringe worthy? 'Take the Money and Run' by The Steve Miller Band. Ewwwwwwwww!

That's pretty bad but The Joker is worse in my book.

Of course, some songs make me cringe just because they've been played to death on the radio but not because they're particularly bad songs. But how many times can you listen to Brown Eyed Girl and still smile and nod your head along?

However, anything by Celine Dion makes me cringe upon first listen.

Barricuda. Or should I say, "BarriCUda". Arrghhhhh!!!!

And one more--Hot Child in the City

For much of the really awful stuff today I have changed channels within a measure so I cannot really tell you what the names are. My radio switching hand in the car has gotten superquick.

I have to agree with most the above posts. However, I really cringe listening to our playback recordings in my band when we are attempting to get a "new song" together.
That is one reason why this cover band I am in is working on
originals. The cringing goes down a bit.

Exactly what I was going to say.

The guy that wrote Living in the USA dropped that turd onto
FM (read AM) radio. He made money but that one hurt.

Others I can't stand. Bread. Carpenters. 60's Bubblegum pop.
Amazing that you could get Yummy Yummy Yummy served up
on the radio during the Hendrix, Mayall, James Gang and Cream years.

Add Sugar Sugar by the Archies (yeah, I know, Chuck Rainey
did the bass line. Bet you he was only in it for the money).
Those songs induce a gag reflex.
