My right hand technique improved immensely once I started playing along to Iron Maiden way back when. I had the whole Steve Harris "gallop" thing down cold after awhile and it carried over to my other styles as well.

Haven't really been into Maiden for a lot of years by now but I still have to credit Steve Harris for helping me take my own playing to the next level.

Rush, same deal but that was more about getting around the neck than just right-hand technique per se.

That was a pretty cool interview; thanks for the link. And I think that actually fits in with this thread. I've been studying a lot of musical theory over the past couple of weeks and I haven't seen a whole lot of correlation between the Circle of Fifths, scales, and modes with the music that I listen to and want to play. :)

I'm going to keep studying theory because I find it fascinating and I'd like to be able to read and write music in a classical style, but I think I'm going to have to lean more with Jeff Berlin and just start learning songs that I can play with other people. So please, keep up with the great suggestions. :hyper:

Teen Town - Jaco Pastorious.. not the toughest bassline, but you really gotta get your fingering good to be able to play it up to speed.

And if you want to get better with rhythms(straight or poly), I'd say some of Tools work.
