Songs with odd time signatures

Blockhead - Devo (11/8 verse, 4/4 chorus)
Soo Bawlz - Devo (Intro in 7/8, rest of song in 4/4)
Praying Hands - Devo (Intro and transition to bridge 6/4, rest of song in 4/4)
Jocko Homo - Devo (7/8 until breakdown, then 4/4)

What are your guys thoughts on some of these odd sigs? Do you think that most bands even figure out the specific time they're in or it's just a "feel" thing on some of these weird times sigs? I have a hard time imagining a band leader saying now let's go to 23/16 than 11/3. I would think for practical purposes these would be almost impossible to count, I think most probably just memorize the pulse.
I honestly feel this song is in 3/4 but with notes played on odd beats and heavily syncopated. But that's just me.

"Supper's Ready" by Genesis. The section titled "Apocalypse in 9/8" features the band playing in 9/8 except for Tony Banks playing keys in different time yet it all comes together. Wicked....
Beat me to it! Discipline, 17/8 bass line, 15/8 guitar and 14/8 guitar; Indiscipline, 5/4 against, uhh, some other time signature

At 0:19, Tool's Jambi has the guitar in 9/8 and Danny kicking along in 6/8, with Justin eventually breaking in with 6/4 on the bass. Pretty nifty.
I think there are some bands that just go by feel, but I think the majority of bands who use odd time sigs are totally aware of the time. Or at least one person in the band knows and instructs everyone else.

We had the pleasure of doing two gigs with them (MPLS, and Madison, WI.) They SLAYED and were really nice guys.
The band I play in is a good example of that. I'm totally feel based, whereas the drummer is schooled and is mostly always aware of what time sig we are playin in. He does his best to talk in numbers and explain whats goin on, but on a song like Link Removed I just need to play it until I feel it.
