Sonicsmith Pitch Tacking Analog Synths (Converter and Squaver P1)

Yup, this is sounding way better! The envelope on the VCA sounds really good, and the filter is pretty flexible.

Still a couple tracking blips, but it's decent sounding overall! For the most part I like what it's doing!

Any way to make an auto swell for the bass signal?

What about making it an sub octave? Ie, use the filter to cut the buzz, and get an effect like a Boss OC-2.


I really wish this box had MIDI presets.

Damnit I totally meant to show the filter on the bass signal, but I forgot. It sounds pretty damn solid. I'll try to see if I have time to shoot a little audio demo for this thread. There is no way I know of to have an auto swell for the bass signal. The envelope on the VCA only effects the synth signal, and the envelope can't do any kind of swell. Only mimics the envelope of your bass (loud at the front, decaying off). I'll try to shoot a little demo of a 'sub octave' setting if I have time as well.

Dry + 24db LPF (higher res and higher cutoff)
Dry + 12db LPF
Dry + 12db LPF (higher res and higher cutoff)
Dry Bass
Dry + pure square wave 1oct down with 24db filter rolled down to sub range
Dry + same as above with slightly higher cutoff and higher mix towards sub
3 sub examples with different cutoff frequencies (no dry bass)

Bit of a question; in your vid you mention that the tracking isn't as good unless its set to unison -> for the audio clip, did you use the sub voice or the main, just pitched down?

Main oscillator pitched down. I found the tracking to be fine that way. It was when pitching it up an octave or two that caused the tracking to appear slightly less stable.

That filter sounds juicy! Can the attach and/or decay get any quicker? Do you find the saw wave as pleasing as the square?
 
Just got my P1+ and it really does track great. The envelope is cool, but run it through a Moog LPF or Phaser or Clusterflux and then it REALLY sounds amazing. Pretty happy so far.

I am having tons of fun using the MOOG MP-201 and CP-251 to send LFOs into the Octave CV in of the P1+ and controlling the Moog LPF's cutoff with the same LFO rate, but with a different wave form. So far, it's working out nicely. I need more patch cables now :)
 
I had some fun with the P1+, ConVertor+, and Modulator A1 this weekend. I also used the P1+ and the ConVertor to control a Moog Minitaur. The sounds were awesome, and using the P1+ and ConVertor to control the Minitaur was extra fun because of the Minitaur's built in presets.



I'll be hooking the P1+ to a Subsequent 37 CV soon. Did you have to use any kind of attenuator for the CV when controlling the Minitaur?

I just ordered a Converter+ specifically for the purpose of controlling my Minitaur. It arrives tomorrow and I'm absolutely stoked.

Now I just need to figure out if I can use midi sustain/hold commands with pitch/gate data coming from CV. I'm trying to jigger it so that I can drop long pedal tones on the synth and then play the clean sound of my bass over top of it (like with the hold function on my old boss syb-5) I'm already splitting the signal so I can mix in the clean bass signal separately. I just need to figure out a way to get the synth to ignore incoming pitch/gate CV to hold the same note until I tell it otherwise. Hmmm...
