Double Bass Sonores Gut Strings by Gerold Genssler

I've viewed/listened to these videos several times since they've been posted. The j-roques seem to have a lot of midrange (or upper midrange) emphasis. From what I've read up to this point, I was expecting a deeper, fatter tone.

It would be nice to hear some samples of straight 4/4 walking bass lines. (Modern jazz seems to be very popular in Europe.)

Hey everyone, so I bought a set of Corax a while back for my Hawkes. They are undeniably expertly made. They have a very interesting frequency range on my bass - a lot of string noise and high/mids plus a few places with a booming fundamental.

There's also a very peculiar "bounce" to the E string specifically. Kind of cool because you it requires less strength to play, but never seemed to really "push" the top like I wanted.

While absolutely excellent, they're not exactly yet what I want. I asked before, but didn't get a response (that I know of). Are there any players in NYC or surrounding areas with the APs on that would be willing to let me hear/play them? Thanks a million in advance.

Hello to everybody. With the new year I've bought a set of Basso 2017 strings because I needed a quality pizzicato/arco string. I'm an Olive G fan but its tuning isn't stable also after months of using, and for this I think the Sonores are a lot better. It's a pleasure to play them, to hear them and also to touch them :-) The tone is awesome, very strong fundamental and a lot of very nice overtones. The arco sound is prismatic. The intonation with bow is more precise than olive and they have a lot of definition also. I'm very satisfied. I've not yet played them with amp so I let you know what will happen. Gerold also he's a very good person like his strings. He's a good double bass player and he's one of the last idealist in the world. ASAP I think I'll get also the Basso Solo version for only arco works.

I posted this question in the Gut thread, in response to @Nathan Levine suggestion that this would be a good route to explore, but figured I should also come to the source.
I've been forced to make some decisions after an unfortunate Lenzner experiment...

I play mostly pizz and slap style. I'm more concerned with the front end of the note as opposed to sustain, but I value a good bow sound. I feel like wound E with raw AD&G is my best option going forward, do you have opinions on the best string to look into?

Very nice . . . interesting instrument & great playing. Sounds somewhere between the bass & cello. Cool :)
