Double Bass Sonores Gut Strings by Gerold Genssler

Today I put my drago fifths tuning set on my small 1/4 size bass. I didn't try this before since I assumed that the tension would be to low... What a surprise! I don't know why but the tension feels simular to what it was on my big bass,and it sounds great too! It made my small bass sound twice as big. Great Arco,fat and punchy pizz, clear focused sound. Gerolds strings rocks!

Is the gut core wrapped around the peg?

These are metal covered strings but yes, some of the strings touches the pegs with the metal.
I hope they don't break...

Hey, has anyone gone in on that tailpiece or endpin he advertises? Did it make much if a difference?

I’ve long said that Gerold’s work borders on alchemy. I use his tailpiece cord, but haven’t sprung for the whole tailpiece as I keep a 7 hole tailpiece on my bass.

The tail piece is very nice, quality, heavy ebony. It made a big difference in my old German bass together with his strings(but not as much difference as his strings of course).

The endpin is also very nice, I don't have much experience with wooden endpins but from the ones I've tried, Genssler's is the best.

Could you share that leaflet? I love dragos but maybe he has come up with something even better!?

They are named "drago basso 2018". Maybe not exactly the same as the old ones?

I would really like to try a fifths tunings set of these new dragos. My set is almost 3 years old and has been on and off different bases maybe 10 times, still sounds great both pizz and Arco.

Dang, wraps are now available with a stabilized core? Anybody got $700 I could borrow?

It's a shame he won't sell individual strings. He could totally sell a million G strings to the Oliv and plain gut g fanatics.

No, the metal wound ones were but not the nylon wound.

They are spoken to gently and reassuring before being wound.

Some gut tennis strings undergo a kind of high-temp finishing process that supposedly makes them more durable and humidity resistant. Probably something similar.

Just got a bass with the black gut strings on it. They sound very nice and they are 3 years old. Nice loose feeling and large sound. Feel really good on this bass (1910 Juzek). I'm gonna throw spiros on and hope it sounds just as good which it probably will. I still can't justify the $600+ price tag on them but again, I probably spend that much with testing strings....
